This month holds no shortage of art in New York City. Artists with a Hamptons connection are showing in galleries across the city. Worth noting is the Jane Freilicher exhibition opening at Tibor De Nagy and a survey of Jackson Pollock works at MoMA. DECEMBER 10 (THURSDAY)

“JANE FREILICHER: THEME AND VARIATIONS” opens on December 10 at Tibor De Nagy Gallery in Midtown. An Opening Reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through January 30, 2016. The exhibition is comprised of subject matter with which the painter was most identified including landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes. Jane Freilicher (1924-2014) was based in NYC and Water Mill.

DECEMBER 11 (FRIDAY)

“ILYA & EMILIA KABAKOV: NEW PAINTINGS” opens on December 11 at Pace Gallery in Chelsea. The exhibition remains on view through January 23, 2016. On view will be two new bodies of work by the Kabakovs that explore the complexities of time and the nature of reality. Ilya and Emilia Kabakov are based on the North Fork.

DECEMBER 12 (SATURDAY)

"JOE BRAINARD: SELECTED WORKS" opens on December 12 at Tibor De Nagy Gallery in Hell's Kitchen. The exhibition remains on view through January 23, 2016. Over 50 rarely seen works will be on view, including collages, paintings, watercolors, and ink drawings.

DECEMBER 17 (THURSDAY)

“OFF THE EASEL: MITCHELL, POLLOCK, ROTHKO” Talk takes place on December 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert Wilson’s Studio in Chelsea. The conversation between Christophe de Menil, Helen Harrison and Laura Morris and is moderated by Christopher Stackhouse. The talk is presented by the Watermill Center. The Watermill Center is located in Water Mill, Long Island.

“CLARITY, PASSION & DARK INERTIA: PAINTINGS BY ERIC DEVER” continues through January 11, 2016 at The New York University, Kimmel Galleries in SoHo. The show presents 29 paintings. Eric Dever is based in the Hamptons.

"JACKSON POLLOCK: A SURVEY" continues through March 13, 2016 at MoMA in Midtown. The survey presents around 50 works that reveals the artistic evolution of the work of Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) from the 1930s and early 1940s, when he made loosely figurative images based on mythical or primeval themes, to the late 1940s and early 1950s, when he pioneered the action abstractions he is best known by pouring and dripping paint onto canvas or paper. Jackson Pollock lived and worked in East Hampton.

"METAL: AMERICAN SCULPTURE, 1945-1970" continues through January 9, 2016 at Michael Rosenfeld Gallery in Chelsea. Works by Asawa, Bertoia, Bontecou, Chase-Riboud, Cousins, Dehner, Diebenkorn, di Suvero, Falkenstein, Ferber, Gordin, Graves, Grossman, Hare, Hunt, Lassaw, Lipton, Marca-Relli, Roszak, Smith, Snelson, Stankiewicz, and others will be on view.  Sculptors on view with Hamptons connections include John Chamberlain (1927 - 2011), Conrad Marca-Reilli (1913-2000) and Ibram Lassaw (1913-2003).

"MARY HEILMANN" closes on December 19 at 303 Gallery in Chelsea. Mary Heilmann will present new paintings, ceramics and furniture sculptures for her solo show. Taken together, the work reveals Heilmann's continuing exploration of abstraction with an infusion of pop and personal references. Heilmann is based in the Hamptons.

"WILLEM DE KOONING SCULPTURES, 1972-1974" closes on December 19 at Skarstedt Gallery on the Upper East Side. Featuring ten sculptures made between 1972-74, this exhibition brings together works modeled by de Kooning himself rather than examples enlarged from existing forms. “COLOR(LESS)” closes on December 23 at Van Doren Waxter on the Upper East Side. The show includes 14 works on paper by Richard Diebenkorn, Michael Goldberg, Arshile Gorky, Al Held, Donald Judd, Franz Kline, Sol Lewitt, Robert Mangold, Robert Motherwell, Dorothea Rockburne, Mark Tobey and Hedda Sterne. Robert Motherwell (1915-1991) lived in East Hampton. Dorothea Rockburne works part-time in Southampton.
