George Billis Gallery is proud to announce the world debut of Liz Sloan's new series unveiled in her solo show "Signature 2020," exhibited from February 11 to March 14, 2020 at its New York gallery in Chelsea. The exhibition presents paintings on paper, wall sculptures, floor sculptures and mixed media studies from Sloan's new series "Signature."

Promoted as a rising star by The Hampton’s Quogue Gallery after a triumphant debut at Scope Miami during Art Basel in 2016, Liz Sloan’s most recent solo exhibit invites participants to embrace the calming energy of her pieces, take a pause, and consider the revitalizing potential of personal identity to empower us in this day and age of digital tyranny.

Throughout history, humans could always draw upon the one life-saving constant to resist the slow creep of technological colonization: the artist’s capacity to unlock the healing super powers of creativity. Liz Sloan’s determination to stand up for one of the last vestiges of our distinct selves, the cursive flow of our signatures, is her own Declaration of Industrial Independence, with art that manifests a bold and brave inscription that is easily read.

Fusing her experiments in painting, sculpture, and design, Liz Sloan’s distinctive style incorporates the adaptable strength of aluminum, an element integral to the composition of our planet since the earth’s creation, with the energetic forward movement of a blue melodic through-line on harmonizing black and white interconnecting and undulating ovals. This charged combination of stability and fluidity, reveals Liz Sloan’s unique narrative depicting the universal imperative of a distinct identity, one’s signature, against a backdrop of the seemingly inevitable and overwhelming imperialistic forces of mechanization and methodization.

"Liz Sloan incorporates the rich art history traditions of creating illusionistic space in her distinctive body of work," George Billis said. "Liz Sloan’s dynamic shaped artwork bridges together painting, drawing and sculpture. Equally comfortable working with 3D sculptures as well as collaged works on paper, the artist’s use of shape, color and computer modeling push these conventional qualities to complex compositions. Inspired by technology, geometric elements and traditional drawing the artist reinvents structural geometric painting into intricate pictorial space - with a minimal graphic color palette and dynamic shapes.”

With its invigorating composition of circular swells and swoops invoking an ethereal serenity, the artist portrays the complex contradictions of not-so-quiet rebellion. Both soothing and exciting, Liz Sloan’s exhibit is an invigorating call-to-action that may very well be the key to unlocking our escape from the 21st Century computerized conundrum of our most recent Faustian bargain.
