The Parrish Art Museum opens its second 2019 Road Show installation this weekend, featuring a site-specific installation by Laurie Lambrecht at Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack, NY. On view from October 5 to November 3, 2019, "Parrish Road Show: Limn to Limb" kicks off with a free cocktail reception on Saturday, October 5, 2019, from 3 to 5 p.m. Open to the public, the installation will feature a mix of photography, weaving, printmaking and knitting.
Bridgehampton artist Laurie Lambrecht (American, b. 1955), who works in photography and fiber, is one of two participants in the 2019 Parrish Road Show, the museum's off-site exhibition series presenting site-specific installations by East End artists that connect to the site and link creativity with everyday life. Lambrecht’s installation Limn to Limb will consider Madoo Conservancy, the Sagaponack home and studio of the Robert Dash (1934-2013), an artist, avid gardener and writer. Lambrecht will respond to Madoo’s trees, shrubs and structures with art that includes photography, printmaking, weaving and knitting.
“My intention is to celebrate the garden of Bob Dash—a place that continues to inspire and reflect his creativity,” the artist wrote in a statement about her installation.

Limn to Limb will be set in several "stations" in the garden, creating a visual conversation with the plants, pathways and objects of Madoo, creating unexpected relationships, placement, colors and textures that allow visitors to experience the grounds in a new way, according to the Parrish. The first encounter takes the form of a large-scale fiber prints of tree bark, covering the façade of Madoo’s main gallery building. The nuances of bark has been an impetus for the artist’s prints and fiber pieces, beginning with her project "Bark/Cloth." In her installation, Lambrecht will make use of photographs she made at Madoo of the varied specimen trees on the property, according to the museum.
The exhibition-installation continues with weavings installed on both structures and trees. Weavings were made from photographs Lambrecht made of flowers in bloom at Madoo last summer. To make the weavings, images are first printed on large pieces of fabric, cut into narrow strips and then woven into small or large-scale tapestries.
Limn to Limb will also feature "intimate outdoor rooms,” created by wrapped groupings of trees featuring small woven pieces; structures wrapped with large tapestries and signs of colorful weavings replacing plant identification markers. In a nod to Dash's signature use of color as a design element, Lambrecht plans to install colorful burlap as a contrast to drab colored-fabrics typically used to wrap trees and shrubs for winter protection.
Another element Limn to Limb continues a project Lambrecht began last fall at the Hardanger Fjord in Norway. Covering stones and rocks with colorful knitted wool, the artist aims to exalt the small and sometimes overlooked, prompting the viewer to "see" these natural elements as they never have before. By drawing attention to these small natural elements, the artist offers contemplation on their roles as contributors to the memory of a place.

"Parrish Road Show: Limn to Limb" kicks off with a cocktail reception on Saturday, October 5, 2019, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Madoo Conservancy. Admission is free and open to the public. The artist is expected to attend.
In addition, Laurie Lambrecht has been chosen as the Parrish Artist-in-Residence his fall. She plans to lead workshops with school children inspired by her installation, inviting them to respond to the artworks and create their own interventions on site. She's also offering a weaving class for adults that's already fully booked.
An Artist Talk with both Road Show artists for 2019--Lambrecht and Candace Hill Montgomery--takes place on Friday, November 1, 2019, at 6 p.m. at the Parrish Art Museum. The artists will converse with Corinne Erni, Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects.
