Theater and film dominate this week's list of the best things to do in The Hamptons this weekend. Two theater productions offer shows from Thursday through Sunday while film screenings take place on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Read on for our picks of the top events taking place through January 20, 2019.

1.  Live Theater: "On Golden Pond"

Hampton Theatre Company presents "On Golden Pond" at the Quogue Community Hall through January 27, 2019 with performances on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. 

The drama by Ernest Thompson tells the love story of long-married couple Ethel and Norman Thayer as they spend what may be their final summer together at their Maine lake house and reflect on what lies ahead and the enduring power of love. The play stars Diana Marbury and George Loizidess with Jane Cortney, Paul Bolger, Wally Marzano-Lesnevich and Ian Hubbard. Directed by Andrew Botsford.

Tickets are $30 for adults; $25 for seniors; $20 for those under 35 years old; $10 for students under 21 years old and $20 for theater industry members and veterans. 2.  Live Theater: "Pretty Little Lies"

Southampton Cultural Center presents Neil LaBute's "Reasons to be Pretty" through January 27, 2019. Performances take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on the Levitas Center's stage in the Southampton Village cultural center.

"Reasons to be Pretty" is the third installment of LaBute’s trilogy that focuses on the modern-day obsession with body image and appearance in American society. The dark comedy deals with the pressures of what it means to be “pretty” as four friends navigate through the fallout from an off-handed remark that changes everything.

General admission is $25 and $12 for students with ID. Group rates are available. Brunch/theater and dinner theater packages are $69 at Claude's or Plaza. 3.  Film & Talk: "Painters Painting: The New York Art Scene 1940-1970"

The Parrish teams up with Hamptons Doc Fest on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 6 p.m. to screen the documentary "Painters Painting: A Candid History of the New York Art Scene, 1940-1970) followed by a talk with painter Valerie Jaudon and Parrish Director Terrie Sultan, who both knew many of the subjects in the film.

Directed by Emile de Antonio, "Painters Painting (1973, 116 minutes) presents candid and intimate interviews with artists in their studios include Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella, Hans Hoffman, Robert Motherwell and others as well as industry movers and shakers including Leo Castelli.

The film is the first in the new series "The Artist's Lens" co-presented by the two non-profit organizations with screenings held at the Parrish Art Museum. Tickets are $20 or $5 for museum members or students. Click here to purchase tickets.

4  National Theatre Live Screening of London Bridge Theatre's "Allelujah"

Guild Hall presents a National Theatre Live Screening of "Allelujah" on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 7 p.m. Filmed live at London’s Bridge Theatre during its limited run, "Alleluhah" is Alan Bennett’s ‘rousing chorus line for the NHS, according to the Observer.

The Beth, an old-fashioned cradle-to-grave hospital serving a town on the edge of the Pennines, is threatened with closure as part of an efficiency drive. A documentary crew, eager to capture its fight for survival, follows the daily struggle to find beds on the Dusty Springfield Geriatric Ward, and the triumphs of the old people’s choir.

5.  Film Screening: "Shoplifters"

Guild Hall co-presents a screening of "Shoplifters" on Saturday, January 19, 2018 at 6 p.m. in partnership with the Hamptons International Film Festival.

Set in on the margins of Tokyo, a dysfunctional band of outsiders are united by fierce loyalty, a penchant for petty theft and playful grifting. When the young son is arrested, secrets are exposed that upend their tenuous, below-the-radar existence and test their quietly radical belief that it is love—not blood—that defines a family.

"Shoplifters" (Japan, 2018, 121 minutes) is directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda. It was the Winner of the Palme D’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
