East End Gallery Scene - Events & Receptions through September 15, 2019

After Labor Day, a collective sigh can be felt on the East End as relief from the traffic mingles with regret of summer's passing. Galleries on the East End start to ease their programs as the weeks turn towards fall. Still, new shows continue to open with fanfare. SOUTHAMPTON

SOUTHAMPTON CULTURAL CENTER - "Southampton Artists Association - Labor Day Art Show" has a Closing Reception on Friday, September 6, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition features member artists presenting over 120 works of art in a variety of mediums including oil and acrylic paintings, sculpture, mixed media and photography. EASTERN LONG ISLAND - BELLPORT

MARQUEE PROJECTS - Talk on the Sacred and Sublime in Buddhist Art takes place on Saturday, September 7, 2019, from 6 to 7 p.m. The talk on "Images of Enlightenment" and an introduction to the history of Buddhist art is given by Jackie Dennis Subhash, the Vice President and Head of Department of Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art at Christie's New York. SUFFOLK COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM - "Native People of the Eastern Woodlands: Art and Artifacts" has an Opening Reception Saturday, September 14, 2019, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free for the exhibition Opening Day and light refreshments will be offered. The exhibition presents art, carvings, tribal dress and artifacts of the Eastern Woodlands people in celebration of the artistic skills they shared as a people.
