The East End is the place to be this week if you love live music. Add in an artist open studio tour, the arrival of the second Hamptons art fair and more happenings with a cultural twist, and the Hamptons weekend is bound to be a vibrant one. Get the fun started early with a free concert at Cooper's Beach on Wednesday. This Friday is especially chocked full of events so make your plans early.

1.  Kate Usher & The Sturdy Souls at Cooper’s Beach

The Southampton Cultural Center presents Kate Usher & The Sturdy Souls at Cooper’s Beach on Wednesday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m.

Based in Montauk, the band is known for its high energy, acoustic performances comparable to a mix of John Mayer, Colbie Callet & Fleetwood Mac. The group will visit Cooper’s Beach as part of the Southampton Cultural Center’s summer concert series. Click here to view the schedule of performances.

2.  Upstairs Art Fair Returns

The Upstairs Art Fair, founded by Harper’s Books and Half Gallery, returns to Amagansett for its third year with a VIP Preview on Friday, July 19, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by an opening from 6 to 8 p.m. The fair continues on Saturday & Sunday, July 20 & 21, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The fair is free and open to the public. Located on the top floor of a three story red barn of a former arts school, the space is minimally altered to present a more organic venue with the feeling of a salon style exposition. 3.  Live Jazz Music on the Terrace

The Parrish Art Museum continues its “Jazz on the Terrace” series with Brazilian singer/songwriter Abelita Mateus on Friday, July 19, 2019, at 6 p.m.

The New York-based musician performs at international venues and is currently the pianist for the Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Cuban Experience. She has performed with such notables as Paquito D’Rivera, John Lee, Antonio Hart, Eric Alexander, Larry Coryell, Claudio Roditi and more. Her 2018 album Mixed Feelings was nominated for Grammy Awards in three categories.

4.  East Hampton Antiques and Design Show

The East Hampton Antiques and Design Show opens with a preview cocktail party on Friday, July 19, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Mulford Farm. The show continues on Saturday & Sunday with an Early Buying hour on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the fair open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Sunday, July 21, 201, the fair is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Trends in Antiquing.” A panel of experts will discuss how antiques can be introduced into contemporary design at the opening preview. Proceeds benefit the East Hampton Historical Society.

Tickets for the Friday night Opening Night Preview Cocktail Party start at $175 per person and include return visits to the Show over the weekend. Junior Tickets (ages 40 and under) are $100. Admission to the show on Saturday or Sunday is $10. Tickets for the early buying hour at 9 a.m. on Saturday are $20. Click here to purchase tickets. 5.  Artist Studio Tour in Westhampton & Beyond

The Westhampton Beach Library offers a weekend "Art Studio Tour" on Saturday and Sunday (July 20 & 21, 2019) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Over 30 artists open their studios based in Westhampton, Quogue, East Quogue and the surrounding. Click here to see the list.

6.  Eric Fischl Hosts “Art as Ecosystem” Series

Guild Hall presents "Art As Ecosystem" Conversation on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 2 p.m. Hosted by Eric Fischl, the panel features Glenn Fuhrman from the Flag Foundation, Dorothy Lichtenstein from the Roy Litchenstein Foundation, and Rick Lowe, a MacArthur Genius, who will discuss what's possible in art and what is yet to dream.

7.  Shakespeare at Sylvester Manor

Take a short trip to Shelter Island to catch Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, 2019, at 6 p.m. on the lawn of the Sylvester Manor Educational Farm.

8.  Tone Poems - Songs without Words Concert

The Southampton Cultural Center presents "Summer Roses IX - Songs without Words - the magical world of tone Poets" on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 5 p.m.

The performance features Junko Ohtsu on violin and Colette Valentine on piano. The repertoire includes work by Ravel and Messiaen, Chopin, Ysaye and Richard Strauss.

9.  Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival Performs Dvořák

The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival continues its “Composer Portraits” series with music by Antonín Dvořák on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church.

Dvořák was inspired by the music of the “New World,” and incorporated many of these rich musical traditions into some of his greatest works. Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival musicians will perform four compositions by Dvořák, and Narrator Roger Rosenblatt will bring insight and humor to Dvořák’s story that continues to reverberate today.

Southampton Cultural Center presents the second lecture in the series "The Majesty and Mystery" by Roger Ketzerstein, LCSW, on Monday, July 22, 2019, at 7 p.m. The series examines the relationship between mental illness and genius exhibited by artists and scientists.
