Long Island art comes alive in a variety of new shows opening in both Suffolk and Nassau Counties. Expect to find solo shows, group shows and a tribute show that takes on additional meaning this month in art exhibited on Long Island. Suffolk County

BELLPORT

MARQUEE PROJECTS -  "All Made Up" opens the gallery's 2019 season. An Artist Talk at 5:15 p.m. and an Opening Reception on Friday, April 5, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through April 28, 2019.

The group show features drawings, pastels and wall sculptures by Jordan Eagles, Elizabeth Riggle and Lorena Salcedo-Watson. All of the artists draw inspiration from connective tissue (blood, bones and cartilage) to create their abstract work.

HUNTINGTON

fotofoto gallery - "In Absentia: A Solo Exhibition of Photographs by Paul Mele" has an Opening Reception Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. The solo show is on view April 24 - May 18, 2019.

The solo show presents 14 large photographs which offer a glimpse of the humanity left behind in abandoned hospitals and long-forgotten homes discovered across a variety of areas. The series explores abandoned places that include classrooms, offices, kitchens and bathrooms where a sense of life remains among the debris of places no longer serving its intended use and transformed by time.

PATCHOGUE

PATCHOGUE ARTS COUNCIL GALLERY - "Slide Slam" final presentation takes place on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a networking reception at Muneca Arthouse.

Slide Slam presents art by 15 to 20 artists who have been selected to give five-minute presentations of their art. Presenting artists in this final edition of the "Slide Slam" program include art by Harper Bella, Tom de Gruyl, Patty Eljaiek, Barry Feuerstein, Lori Horowitz, Justin Klein, John Lazzaro, Candice Licalzi, Jeff Macholz, Andrea Rhude, Jim Sabiston, Khurshid Saleem, Janice Sztabnik, Michael Vivona and C. Sloggatt Wolf.

Patchogue Arts Council Gallery is located at 20 Terry Street, Patchogue, NY Admission is free. The networking reception at Muneca Arthouse takes place at 12 South Ocean Avenue, one block away.

ST. JAMES

Watermark Galleries - "Blurred Lines: Abstract & Impressionist Photograph" has an Opening Reception on Friday, April 5, 2019, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The group show remains on view through June 6, 2019.

Keeping true to the exhibition title, the group show presents photography that is abstract or impressionist. Includes art by gallery owner Bob Retnauer, Liz Salerno, Jim Keller, Barry Bernstein, Rich Green and others.

DIX HILLS

ART LEAGUE OF LONG ISLAND - "Stan Brodsky and Friends" has an Opening Reception on Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The group show is on view April 13 to April 28, 2019.

“Stan Brodsky and Friends” is an exhibition of works by 27 artists in tribute to master abstract artist, mentor or friend Stan Brodsky. Not originally intended as a memorial show, Stan Brodsky passed away on March 30, 2019. He was 94 years old. Brodsky influenced generations of artists as a Professor of Art at C.W. Post, LIU, and as an art instructor at the Art League of Long Island. His art has been exhibited nationwide with "The Brodsky Papers" held by the Smithsonian Institution.

Exhibiting artists include Stan Brodsky, Ennid Berger, Peter Galasso, Deborah Katz, Pamela Long Nolan, Laura Powers-Swiggett, Janice Sztabnik, Hiroko Yoshida and others.

Nassau County

OYSTER BAY

BAHR GALLERY - "British Invasion," an exhibition of historic posters and artwork by the San Francisco "Big Five" poster art designers, has an Opening Reception on Saturday, April 13, 2019. The exhibition is on view April 13 to June 9, 2019. On Friday, April 26, 2019, Phil Lesh & Friends keyboardist Scott Guberman performs an intimate set at Bahr Gallery from 8 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 and reservations are essential as the concert is expected to sell out. "British Invasion" focuses on the second British rock band invasion that took place in the late 1960s. Bands in this wave included the Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd, Blind Faith and Traffic, Jethro Tull, the Moody Blues and others.

Highlights of the show includes a rare 1966 Beatles at Candlestick Park (their last live concert); Yardbirds pieces with Jimmy Page; plus circa 1968-1969 posters featuring Cream, the Moody Blues, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and several Beatles posters including the famous psychedelicized 4 Beatle heads by Richard Avedon.

Also on view are a range of iconic or rarely seen late 1960s artwork from San Francisco-based rock concert poster artists Wes Wilson, Victor Moscoso, Mouse & Kelley and Rick Griffin.
