Live music, film, lectures and an artist birthday party made this week's list of the best things to do on the East End this week and weekend. THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 2019

The Jam Session presents the Iris Ornig Quartet on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 7 to 8 p.m. followed by an open jam session from 8 to 9 p.m. at Union Cantina in Southampton, NY. The Iris Ornig Quartet features Jeremy Powell on tenor sax; Takaaki Otomo on piano; Iris Ornig on bass and Claes Brondal on drums.

Admission is free. The performance will be rebroadcast on the radio at 88.3 FM (WPPB) during the Jam Session Radio Broadcast on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Union Cantina is located at 40 Bowden Square, Southampton, NY 11968.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2019

Keyes Art celebrates moving to a new Hamptons location with a Birthday Party for Nathan Slate Joseph paired with an Opening Reception for its first group show on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. The gallery is moving from East Hampton to Sag Harbor and is now located adjacent to the American Hotel on Main Street.

Parrish Art Museum teams up with Hamptons Doc Fest to screen "BUEYS" on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the art museum. The film presents an in-depth look at the life and art of 20th Century German sculptor and performance artist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) and his impact on the art world. The film will be followed by a talk by Parrish Director Terrie Sultan.

Admission is $15 or $5 for museum members and students. BUEYS (2017) is 107 minutes and directed by Andres Veiel. Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, NY 11987.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 2019

Bay Street Theater opens its 2019 series Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 8 p.m. Each concert features Nancy Atlas and friends playing her special blend of rock and Americana music.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2019

The Southold Historical Society partners with Peconic Landing for its Winter Lecture Series that kicks off on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 4 p.m. with "The Art of the Eel" at the Peconic Landing Auditorium in Greenport on the North Fork.

The evening begins with a lecture by Stephen N. Sanfilippo, who discusses the history of eel fishing and the cultural significance of the eel. Afterwards, music and poetry captures the ways eels have sparked the imagination.
