Music and art-related events are especially prominent in this week's picks of the top things to do on the East End of Long Island. Jazz with a connection to the East End and important music history will be heard in Montauk as well as Latin Music in support of a family friendly dance party in Southampton. Theater kicks off the week with a public video art projection and an author talk for a book everyone is talking about following. All of our picks take place in The Hamptons and on the North Fork through November 18, 2018.

The Rime, Presented by The White Room Gallery

The White House Gallery presents  "The Rime" at The Stephen Talkhouse on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Based on the ballad, "The Rime of The Ancient Mariner," written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Gabriel Portuondo plays 10 characters in this one man show. All bring to life the mutiny of the crew and the albatross and the ancient spirits. Portions of the proceeds will go to Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue.

Ninth Street Women Author Mary Gabriel In Conversation with Helen A. Harrison

Pollock-Krasner Study Center presents a talk with Mary Gabriel, author of Ninth Street Women, in conversation with Helen A. Harrison at Canio's Books on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 4 p.m.  

In her new book, "Ninth Street Women," Mary Gabriel tells the stories of five female painters--Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, and Grace Hartigan--who challenged the male-dominated ethos of the New York art world in the 1950s. The author skillfully interweaves their personal and professional histories and sets them in the era's broader social and political context. Some of her extensive research was done at the Pollock-Krasner Study Center.

Latin Dance Party at Southampton Cultural Center

The Southampton Cultural Center presents a "Latin Dance (Baile Latino) on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 7 to 10 p.m. 

Jaime Ruiz and the Southampton Cultural Center have partnered with OLA of Eastern Long Island to provide a family friendly atmosphere for dance. Refine your advanced Latin dance skills or to learn new ones as a beginner as all levels are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. .

Video Art Projection at Historic Meeting House Celebration 

The Jamesport Meeting House celebrates its "10th Anniversary Celebration" on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The festivities include a newly commissioned video work by Cliff Baldwin, “Jamesport Meeting – A Portrait of the Building in Sound and Image,” will be projected on the Meeting House’s century-old tin walls.

Jazz Concert in Montauk

The Pat DeRosa Jazz Orchestra gives a rare performance on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Montauk Library.

Presented in the Suzanne Koch Gosman Room, the concert features three generations of DeRosas: Pat DeRosa on saxophone, Patricia DeRosa Padden on piano and vocals and Nicole DeRosa Padden on flute and vocals. The group will perform jazz standards, pop ballads and songs inspired by the holidays.

Accompanying the concert is an exhibition presenting photographs and objecs objects related to Mr. DeRosa's long and illustrious career, including his past World War II days touring with the Tommy Tucker Orchestra followed by regular engagements playing in NYC at the Plaza, the Waldorf-Astoria and the Paramount to present day performances with Billy Joel and Big Shot. The exhibition will remain on view throughout November.

The concert is free and open to the public. No pre-registration is needed.
