Labor Day Weekend is here! Expect crowds and extra things to do in The Hamptons and the North Fork for the final weekend of summer. Our picks include live music, performances, film screenings, firework celebrations and more. Returning as steady Labor Day Traditions are the Hampton Classic Horse Show and the Shinnecock Indian PowWow. Read on to discover the options on the East End through September 3, 2018.

Hampton Classic Horse Show

The Hampton Classic Horse Show returns to Bridgehampton from August 26 to September 2, 2018. 

The arrival of the Hampton Classic Horse Show is a sure sign that a Hamptons summer is about to come to a close. It's one of the largest horse shows in the United States and a premier stop on the summer tour. For the schedule, click here. Competitions in the Anne Aspinall Hunter Ring and the Grand Prix Ring have live streams.

Tickets are $10 per person daily or $20 per carload. Seniors are free from Tuesday to Thursday and Kids are free on Saturday. Reserved seats for Grand Prix Sunday are $45 per person for bucket seating in all sections.

Live Folk and Roots Music at the Parrish Art Museum

The Parrish Art Museum presents “Music on the Terrace: Bluegrass with the Edith and Bennet Band” on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 6 p.m.   

Bring your blankets and chairs to listen to husband and wife duo Edith & Bennett Band perform fiddle, banjo, folk and roots music at the Parrish Art Museum’s annual Bluegrass Labor Day event. Barbeque and specialty drinks will be available for purchase.

Poetry Reading with Star Black at Canio's

Canio's Books presents a poetry reading on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 6 p.m.

Poets Star Black and Cornelius Eady read from their work. Star Black is a published poet and artist, who currently teaches in the MFA program at Stony Brook Southampton. Poet Cornelius Eady has published more than half a dozen volumes of poetry.

72nd Annual Shinnecock Indian PowWow

The Shinnecock Indian PowWow will be held in Southampton from August 31 to September 3, 2018. 

Now in its 72nd year, the Shinnecock Indian PowWow is the one of the largest Native American Gatherings on the East Coast. Each year, Native drum groups and dancers compete for over $50,000 in prize money. Each day features competitive dancing, guest entertainment, prayers and ceremonial dances. Grand Entry occurs each day at 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. except for Monday. Sunset Fire Lighting takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The PowWow concluded on Monday evening at 6 p.m. with prizes awarded to the competing drums and dancers.

The PowWow also features around 100 vendors offering Native American arts, crafts and food from across America.

Admission is $15 for adults; $10 for Seniors, Children (6 to 12 years old) and Veterans with Military ID. Children under 5 are free. The PowWow is family friendly and is alcohol and drug free. No pets.

Outdoor Screening of JAWS at Southampton Arts Center

Southampton Arts Center presents “Summer of Spielberg: JAWS” on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 8:30 p.m.   

To close their “Summer of Spielberg” series, the Southampton Arts Center will be screening "JAWS" outside on the lawn. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their chairs, blankets, and snacks to enjoy the annual crowd favorite. Presented in conjunction with the Hamptons International Film Festival.

Musical Evita Extended Through September 2

Bay Street Theater presents the musical "Evita," with performances taking place on Friday, August 31 at 8 p.m., Saturday, September 1 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 2 at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m. 

The revival of the musical "EVITA" presents the iconic Eva Perón and her ascent to the top as the First Lady of Argentina. Bay Street Theater's production combines a large scale musical with the intimate experience found at the Sag Harbor theater. Originally set to close on August 26, the musical has been extended until September 2, 2018.

Perlman Music Project Alumni Recital 

The Perlman Music Project presents "Stires-Stark Alumni Recital Series: Rachel Lee Priday, violin" on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at its Shelter Island campus.

PMP alum violinist Rachel Lee Priday performs an album preview concert on the Stires-Stark Alumni Recital Series at the Clark Arts Center. With pianist Marija Stroke.

Puppets, Comedy & AI at Guild Hall

Guild Hall presents “The Summit” with a Special Opening Night Performance on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 8 p.m.   

A comedy about artificial intelligence set in the future, “The Summit" features live performance and puppetry set to an original score. Written and directed by Isla Hanse, Tucker Marder, and Christian Scheider, the performance is inspired by Space-Age aesthetic with hints of the Netflix series "Black Mirror." 

An Opening Night Performance on Saturday, September 1, 2018 includes a premium seat to the 8 p.m. performance, after-party including food and drinks, and a backstage tour by the writers, directors and designers of the show. Performances will be presented at Guild Hall from August 29 to September 9, 2018.

Westhampton Beach Festival of the Arts

The Westhampton Beach Festival of the Arts presents its 10th edition on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2, 2018 on The Great Lawn in Westhampton Beach. Hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

For the past decade, the creative talents of artisans from throughout Florida and across America have transformed the Great Lawn into an outdoor gallery of original art. Artwork in mediums such as sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, glass, ceramics, mixed-media, metalwork, fiber art, woodworking and more can all be found.

“Spirited Away” Screening with April Gornik

The Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center presents “Spirited Away” with April Gornik on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 6 p.m.   

As part of their Artists Love Movies series, the Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center will be screening “Spirited Away,” chosen by artist April Gornik. Often compared to "The Wizard of Oz" and "Alice in Wonderland," Academy Award winning “Spirited Away” is the story of a 10-year-old girl who is plunged into a haunting fantasyland following the death of her parents. April Gornik will have a conversation following the screening.

Art, Oysters & Champagne Event 

The New Suffolk Waterfront presents "Art, Oysters & Champagne" on Sunday, September 2, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. 

This end of summer art event will be held under a big tent on the lawn of the New Suffolk Waterfront. Enjoy fresh local oysters, hors d'oeuvres, and North Fork champagne and wine. Artwork by local artists will be auctioned off during the event. All proceeds go toward the continuing revitalization of the New Suffolk Waterfront property.

End of Summer Celebration, Fireworks, and Symphony in Greenport

Peconic Landing presents “End of Summer Celebration and Fireworks Show” on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 7 p.m.   

To close the summer, Peconic Landing will be hosting their annual Celebration and Firework show, open to the community.  Beginning at 7 p.m., the 40-member Atlantic Wind Symphony will begin performing popular songs, there will be a salute to veterans and current service members as well as police and volunteer fire officials. Fireworks begin at 8:15 p.m.  Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs.
