“Prisoner of Paradise” at Southampton Jewish Film Festival

The Southampton Cultural Center, in partnership with the Chabad Southampton Jewish Center, continues the Southampton Jewish Film Festival this week presents “Prisoner of Paradise” this Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

The film screening will feature guest speakers Robert Kalfin and Jeremy Lawrence. The documentary tells the story of Kurt Gerron, a wildly successful German Cabaret star who, with the rise of Adolf Hitler, was tragically forced to use his talents to write and direct a propaganda film.

Audrey Flack in conversation with Esperanza León

The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art continues their “Artist Speak” series this Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 6 p.m. at The Art Barge.

Audrey Flack, whose first appearance in the series during its early years in 1986, is most recognized for pioneering the genre of Photo-Realism. Flack’s conversation with Esperanza León will examine her evolution as an artist, emphasizing her Renaissance and Baroque inspiration as well as the representation of women throughout her work.

Artistic Dreams International Summer Cocktail Party and Fundraiser in The Hamptons

Artistic Dreams International will host a Summer Cocktail Party, silent auction and exhibit at Martha Clara Vineyards on August 18, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Artistic Dreams International is an arts education non-profit dedicated to providing intensive arts programs to students living in underserved communities in New York City and Mexico. The exhibition will feature works from established Mexican artists debuting works relating to immigration at the US border. The cocktail event and fundraising auction, catered by Cowfish, will include bidding on exclusive gift items. Artworks created by Artistic Dreams children will also be available for purchase. The silent auction will include 30 beautiful works by children from Mexico.

All event proceeds go to benefit Artistic Dreams International.

Talk with Four-Time Pulitzer Prize Winner Carol Guzy

The International Center for Photography and the Southampton Arts Center presents “ICP TALKS: Illustrated Talk with Pulitzer Prize Winner Carol Guzy this Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 7 p.m.

The final talk in the “ICP TALKS” series features four-time Pulitzer Prize-Winning photographer Carol Guzy. A staff photographer for the Washington post, Carol Guzy is the only journalist to ever receive a fourth Pulitzer Prize. She has been named “Photographer of the Year” for the National Press Photographers Association three times and eight times for the White House News Photographers Association.

Open Studios on Shelter Island

Artists of Shelter Island (ARTSI) presents “Open Studios” this Saturday, August 18, 2018 and Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Now in its 9th year, and an annual summer highlight, ARTSI’s open studio’s will feature artwork from 14 artists including painters, photographers, printmakers, digital artists and sculptors.
