The upcoming week is a wild one with fun and unusual events unfolding on the East End. The annual Bra Fashion Show and Auction returns this week and showcases artist and creative handiwork for a great cause. Also making our list this week for the best things to do in The Hamptons and North Fork are theater, live music, the launch of a new arts center in The Hamptons and plenty more. Need more? 8th Annual Bra Auction Benefit 

The 8th annual “Reconstructed Bra Fashion Show & Auction” takes place on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 7 p.m. The benefit will be held at the Southampton Social Club.

The Bra Auction is a benefit for our local breast cancer organizations, Lucia’s Angels and the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. Even after eight years, artists are still coming up with new and creative ways to reconstruct these bras into wearable art. The event will feature 20 reconstructed bras worn by local models, with the works of art being auctioned off live throughout the evening.

Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 at the door. Tickets can be purchased here or at Catena’s Market and the Ellen Hermann Breast Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. The Southampton Social Club is located at 256 Elm St, Southampton, NY 11968.

“Oliver!” Opens on the North Fork  

The North Fork Community Theatre presents “Oliver!” from May 17 through June 3, 2018. A free Opening Night Reception will be held on Thursday, May 17, starting at 7 p.m. and includes wine tastings with Sannino Bella Vita Vineyards.

The show is based on Charles Dickens’ classic novel “Oliver Twist” and features the familiar figures of Oliver, Fagin, Nancy, Bill Sykes and, of course, the Artful Dodger. Enjoy the classic songs “Where Is Love,” “Consider Yourself” and “As Long As He Needs Me.”

Tickets are $25. Performances are May 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 31 and June 1, 2 and 3. Show times are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The North Fork Community Theatre is located at 12700 Sound Ave, Mattituck, NY 11952. www.nfct.com.

Salon Series Featuring New Docta Ensemble 

The Parrish Art Museum presents “Salon Series: New Docta Ensemble” on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 6 p.m.

New Docta International Music Festival and Foundation musicians perform to help build cultural bridges between the US, South America, and the rest of the world. Co-founders, Solange Merdinian (mezzo-soprano), Sami Merdinian (violin) and Yves Dharamraj (cello), joined by guest pianist Philip Edward Fisher, will present a program exploring music from Argentina, from classical to contemporary and folk to tango.

Ikebana at LongHouse

LongHouse Reserve presents “Ikebana with Julie Jensen” on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Julie Jensen has been a Sogetsu Ikebana practitioner for more than 30 years. The Sogetsu School believes that anyone can arrange flowers anywhere, a philosophy Julie has adopted.  She has exhibited at many places including the US Botanical Garden, The Torpedo Factory and the Blue Spiral Gallery in Asheville.

Yard Sale for Sag Harbor Cinema

The Sag Harbor Partnership and Christ Episcopal Church presents “Yard Sale for the Cinema: Clean for a Cause!” on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Help support the effort to rebuild and renovate the new Sag Harbor Cinema! People from all over the East End are donating treasures, cleaning out their closets, all while helping to rebuild what the Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center will become. 100% of proceeds will benefit the Cinema effort.

Arts Center at Duck Creek Season Opening 

Arts Center at Duck Creek presents their Season Opening on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 3 to 7 p.m. 

Enjoy music and art events throughout the afternoon. An art reception will be held at 3 p.m. for "Under the Sun: Outdoor Sculpture," organized by Loring Bolger. Participating artists include: Mary Antzak, Michael Chiarello, James DeMartis, Elaine Grove, Bill King, Bill Kiriazis, Dennis Leri, Mica Marder, Aurelio Torres and Ted Tyler. At 5 p.m., the 2nd annual Picnic Concert presented by The Jam Session, Inc. will commence with a two-hour Latin and Jazz program. The outdoor concert will feature Ada Rovatti, sax, Bill O’Connell, piano, Santi Debriano, bass, and Claes Brondal, drums.
