Plenty of music can be heard across the East End and in the Hamptons this weekend. Classical holiday music, Indian, Afro-Cuban, and Billy Joel classics are all part of our musical highlights through December 17, 2017. In addition to music, film screenings made our list for the best things to do this weekend in the Hamptons, North Fork and East End through December 17, 2017.

Indian Classical & Western Pop Music Fusion Ensemble

The Parrish Art Museum presents “Music: Ustad Shafaat Khan and East Meets West” on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 6 p.m.

Enjoy an evening of Indian classical and folk music plus a blend of Indian and Western music by Ustad Shafaat Khan and his fusion group “East Meets West.” The son of Ustad Imrat Khan, Ustad Shafaat Khan is a world-renowned Indian classical musician who has performed at prestigious concert halls and music festivals around the world. The concert features Ustad Shafaat Khan on Sitar/Vocal/Tabla, Coco Bastien on Guitar/Vocal, and Farhaj Aziz on Keyboard.

The Lords of 52nd Street Holiday Show

The Suffolk Theater presents “Billy Joel’s Original Band, The Lords of 52nd Street Holiday Show” on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 8 p.m. Doors and bar open at 6:30 p.m.

Billy Joel's original band The Lords of 52nd Street will be performing the Billy Joel classics that they themselves recorded in the 70s and 80s - from the Stranger and 52nd Street to Turnstiles - as well as some holiday favorites. Richie Cannata on saxophone, Liberty DeVitto on drums, Russell Javors on guitar and David Clark on piano and vocals.

Weekend Screenings of "JANE"

Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center screens the documentary "JANE" (English, 90 minutes, PG) on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 4 and 7 p.m. and on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 4 p.m.

"JANE" offers an intimate portrait of Jane Goodall, whose chimpanzee research challenged the male-dominated scientific consensus of her time and revolutionized our understanding of the natural world. Directed by Brett Morgen, the documentary is set to an orchestral score by Philip Glass.

“FACES PLACES” Screening, Part of New Series   

Guild Hall and The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) presents a new series of screenings titled "NOW SHOWING." The series kicks off with a special screening of “FACES PLACES” (France, 2016, 89 minutes) on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 6 p.m.

89-year old Agnes Varda, one of the leading figures of the French New Wave, and JR, the acclaimed 33 year-old French photographer and muralist, team up to make this documentary/road movie. Together they travel around the villages of France in JR’s photo truck meeting locals, learning their stories and producing epic-size portraits of them. Directed and written by Agnès Varda and JR. Starring: Jean-Paul Beaujon, Amaury Bossy and Yves Boulen.

"NOW SHOWING" will bring notable films currently in theaters, but not slated for the East End, to East Hampton, NY. The series, curated by HIFF, features first-run acclaimed art house, independent, and world cinema in Guild Hall's John Drew Theater on select Saturday nights throughout the year.

Afro-Cuban Jazz Night 

LIVE from Southampton Arts Center and the Jam Session presents “Afro-Cuban Jazz Night with Oscar Feldman” on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 7 to 9 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for sangria and small bites from Union Cantina.

Known for his tonalities and melodically charts, Argentinian native Oscar Feldman demonstrates his skills on alto, tenor and soprano saxes, while employing a wide range of Panamerican references, from straight ahead to tango to candombe to samba to mambo. Accompanying Feldman will be Frank Lacy on Horns, Ian MacDonald on Piano, Essiet Essiet on Bass, and Claes Brondal on Drums.

Holiday Concert in Southold      

The Southold Opera and Southold Historical Society presents a “Holiday Concert” on Saturday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 3 p.m.

The French American Choir of New York and the Southold Opera Choir will perform a Holiday Concert.
