The Outsider Art Fair opened at Center 548 in Chelsea with three floors of unconventional drawings, paintings, sculpture, found object assemblages and more. Inventive use of unexpected materials seemed to be a theme throughout the fair. Found object sculpture and small works were especially compelling. Both the hand and the psyche of the artist were emphasized in the majority of works, creating an intimate interaction between artist and viewer. Overall, individuality seemed to be what was most celebrated by this fair, and the result was refreshing and thought-provoking. Below is a slideshow of works that stood out on a walk through the fair.
