"Artists Choose Artists" opens at The Parrish Art Museum presenting East End artists in connection. The popular biennial is a highlight of the Parrish's exhibition program and directly reveals artists playing important roles in the East End art community. The exhibition does this by first selecting a slate of accomplished artists who each pick two artists from a pool of applicants. "Artists Choose Artists" opens on October 30, 2016 and continues through January 16, 2016.

Now in its third edition, there were seven artists selected as jurors by the museum. Each juror selected two artists and each trio of artists has work installed in relationship to each other. There were nearly 200 online submissions. Work selected for the 2016 exhibition includes painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media. The artist line up is:

Tina Barney with Dinah Maxwell Smith and RJT Haynes

Lynda Benglis with Garrett Chingery and Saskia Friedrich

Tony Oursler with Jackie Black and Marianne Weil

Donald Lipski with Suzanne Anker and Ben Butler

Jorge Pardo with Anne Bae and Monica Banks

Cindy Sherman with Bill Komoski and Toni Ross

Leo Villareal with Karin Waisman and Almond Zigmund

Studio visits are a part of the selection process by artist-jurors and aim to start a dialogue among area artists who may or may not known each other. After the artists have been selected, studio visits are also conducted by Alicia Longwell, The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator, and Corinne Erni, Curator of Special Projects, and filmed. Footage was compiled into a film that premieres this weekend (October 29 and 30, 2016) in a set of exhibition receptions. The videos will become viewable on the museum's Vimeo page in the upcoming days. To view, click here.

Gallery talks by exhibiting artists will be held November 2016 through January 2017.

Five of the artists participating in the exhibition—Suzanne Anker, Monica Banks, Ben Butler, Saskia Friedrich, and Karin Waisman—will also lead workshops as part of the Museum’s annual Artist-in-Residence program. Through the Museum’s partnerships with local and regional schools and organizations, nearly 350 East End students will visit the exhibition, meet the artists, learn about their artistic practices, and make art that will be displayed in the Parrish’s 2017 "Student Exhibition."
