JUNE 1 (Saturday)

“NAHUM TSCHACBASOV: A RETROSPECTIVE” presented by Arthur T. Kalaher Fine Art at The National Arts Club opens June 1 with an Opening Reception on June 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. by invitation only. "ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM" opens June 1 and continues through Aug 2 at Michael Rosenfeld Gallery in Chelsea. The exhibition includes works by Seymour Lipton, Charles Alston, Norman Bluhm, Beauford Delaney, Willem de Kooning, Jay DeFeo, Michael Goldberg, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Lee Krasner, Norman Lewis, Conrad Marca-Relli, Boris Margo, Alfonso Ossorio, Richard Pousette-Dart, Milton Resnick, Charles Seliger, Alma Thomas, Mark Tobey, Jack Tworkov and Hale Woodruff. “The Gate by Charles Harlan at Karma has an Opening Reception on June 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. Sculptures on view in this exhibition explores the similarities between altars and bathroom sinks. The exhibition remains on view through July 13. Karma is located at 39 Great Jones Street, Ground floor.  karmakarma.org. Karma exhibits in The Hamptons in a pop up space in Amagansett during the summer.

JUNE 14 (Friday)

"As Subject and Object: Contemporary Book Artists Explore Sacred Hebrew Texts" opens on June 14 at the Museum of Biblical Art (MOBIA). The exhibition features around 40 works by 14 artists from 4 continents. Included is Book of Judith by Ellen Frank / Ellen Frank Illumination Arts Foundation of East Hampton, NY. A panel discussion takes place on June 27 at 6:30 p.m. The exhibition continues through Sept 29. MOBIA is located at 1865 Broadway (at 61st Street), New York, NY 10023. www.mobia.org.

JUNE 18 (Tuesday)

"One Summer" opens on June 18 at Birnam Wood/Galleries. The show includes works by Susan Grossman, Wolf Kahn, Margery Gosnell-Qua, Chloe Lamb, De Hirsh Margules, Ilse Murdock, Alexis Portilla, Michael Rich, Katherine Ryan Roth, and Clifford Smith. "HERoica: New Work By National Affiliates 2013" opens on June 18 and has an Opening Reception on June 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Soho20 Chelsea Gallery. The group show features works by Elizabeth Michelman, Gail Hoffman, B. Amore, Georgia Strange, Virginia Tyler, Mary Whalen, Karen Baldner, Louise Farrell, Ann Rowles, Fan Bull, Barbara Rehg, Rose Thompson, Eve Whitaker with Justine Johnson, Tamsie Ringler, Carolyn Conrad, Cecilia Kane and Elena Lourenco. “SUMMERTIME SALON 2013” – at Robin Rice Gallery has an Opening Reception on June 26 from 5:30 t0 8:30 p.m. The annual photography exhibit includes 54 artists’ interpretations of the “Summer” theme. The exhibition remains on view through September 15. The gallery is located at 325 West 11th Street (between Greenwich and Washington Streets). “PORNALIKES by Piotr Uklański at Karma closes on June 8. Works on view are part of an ongoing series of photographs derived from the Polish artist’s image archive depicting porn actors who strongly resemble famous people from the here and now. “STRUCTURES – A VIEW OF THREE DIMENSIONS”at Birnam Wood/Galleries in Chelsea closes June 15. The group exhibition features works by David Datuna, John Hardy, Tatyana Murray, Robert Rauschenberg and Aurelia Wasser. “RAPTURE” – A solo exhibition by Rosanne Olson at Robin Rice Gallery closes on June 16. The exhibition features new photography with a dreamlike feel that conjures the notion of floating weightless amid blue skies. "SUMMER SELECTIONS" at Spanierman Modern in Midtown closes on June 28. The exhibition includes works by Dan Christensen, Frank Bowling, Stanley Boxer, Friedel Dzubas, Sam Francis, Carol Hunt, Paul Jenkins, Larry Poons, Jack Roth, Syd Solomon, James Walsh and Neil Williams. Artists with ties to the Hamptons include Christensen, Hunt and Solomon. Also on view through June 28 is "Perle Fine: 30 Years of Painting" and "Jasmina Danowski: Cabin Fever." CONTINUING: 

“WOOD IN CONTEMPORARY ART, CRAFT AND DESIGN” through Sept 15, 2013 at the Museum of Arts and Design. The group show presents over 75 installations, sculptures, furniture and objects made by 57 artists or designers. Included is the installation Open Air Studio by Hope Sandrow of Southampton.
