The following is a select list of places to find art (other than galleries) in the Hamptons.

Bridge Gardens

Landscaped grounds and gardens preserved by the Peconic Land Trust. In summer, a contemporary outdoor sculpture exhibition is presented “Uncommon Ground III” will be on view through Sept 10. Other programs include a live music series and lectures.  Bridge Gardens is seasonal.

Dan Flavin Art Institute of the Dia Art Foundation

Permanent exhibition of nine fluorescent light installations by Dan Flavin (1933-1996) plus changing exhibitions. Open year-round.

East End Arts

East Hampton Historical Society

A single historical society with four different locations in East Hampton and one in Amagansett. Summer usually brings an art exhibition in addition to its historical exhibitions and programs.  “Moran: A Family Celebration of Home and Place” is on view from June 3 to July 8 at the Clinton Academy. Guild Hall

Museum exhibitions and outdoor sculpture gardens. Additional programming includes theater, film, opera and educational programs. Open year round.

LongHouse Reserve

Outdoor sculpture set among manicured grounds. There are changing exhibitions held indoors and out. Seasonal.

Parrish Art Museum

The summer of 2012 is the final hurrah for the Parrish Art Museum’s location in the Village of Southampton. In November, the museum moves to Water Mill and into a new sprawling building designed by Swiss architects. Until then, the Parrish continues to hold changing exhibitions on Jobs Lane.  Open year round.

Pollock Krasner House & Study Center

The home and studios of Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) and Lee Krasner (1908-1984). Both buildings are open for visitors. Summer art exhibitions are held each year. Pollock’s studio appears as it was when the action painter used it—complete with paint drips on the floor. Visitors wear booties to protect the unusual slice of art history. The museum is seasonal.

Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum

Historical museum that offers art exhibitions in the summer. In 2012, there are two group shows planned. “Light By The Water” presents local landscapes by Plein Air Peconic from May 17 to July 9. “For The Birds” is presented by Peter Marcelle from July 13 to Sept 3. Other programming includes a live music series. The museum is seasonal.

Southampton Cultural Center

Curated art shows plus group shows by the Southampton Artists Association. Other programming includes classical and jazz concerts, a summer concert series at Agawam Park, theater, and classes and workshops. Open year round.

Southampton Historical Museum

A single historical museum with three separate locations in Southampton Village. Changing exhibits, including art shows, are offered year round in the Rogers Mansion. Other programming includes tours, lectures, educational programs and special events. Open year round.

Suffolk County Historical Museum

Historical museum that offers changing exhibitions including art shows. Open year round.

Water Mill Museum

Historical museum that offers summer art exhibitions. Seasonal. The museum is also home to the Clay Art Guild of the Hamptons. Their seasonal gallery (Celadon Gallery) is located on the museum’s grounds.
