You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory

VSOP Projects is pleased to present You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory, an exhibition organized in cooperation with dealer and collector, Lucas Natali.
.
Using the eponymous 1978 song by Johnny Thunders as it’s jumping-off point, You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory features works by B. Wurtz, Katelyn Eichwald, Kevin Teare, Alexandra Borovski, R. Crumb, Tara Israel, Masha Sha, Brian William Green, and Daniel Johnston. A suite of films arranged by the exhibition’s curators and a selection of rare books, objects, and vintage ephemera accompanies the works of art.
.
While varied in both media and perspective, the exhibition’s works share a certain precariousness. B. Wurtz's Untitled, a table-top sculpture exactingly assembled from unassuming materials (wood, marble, wire, a shoelace and a button), unambiguously presents its own delicate yet confidently statured body. In the case of Alexandra Borovski's meticulously hand-painted leather vest and it's accompanying photorealistic, true-to-scale painting of a motorcycle by an unidentified artist, a nostalgia exists for an era fading from our collective long-term memory.
