“Cornelia Foss”

"Cornelia Foss" opens at Guild Hall on October 24 and remains on view through January 3, 2016. An Opening Reception will be held on October 24 from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Foss obviously knows whereof she paints – there is a complicity of the eye and hand that renders the scene perfectly recognizable yet autobiographically personal.” – Gerrit Henry, Art in America

“Graceful, mature…paintings full of light and a subtle geometry” – Michael Kimmelman, The New York Times, “Cornelia Foss: New Paintings”, May 27, 2005

A survey of the artist’s oil on canvas works from the late 1990s through 2014, the exhibition explores Ms. Foss’ organic affinity for nature including bold blue seascapes and vast flat field landscapes painted in the tradition of Fairfield Porter, Jane Frelicher, Robert Dash and Jane Wilson. Other works focus on the horticulturally lush oases inside New York City’s Central Park. Additionally featured are several portraits of family members and friends. The exhibition includes one work from Guild Hall’s permanent collection: Summer Garden (2003). The exhibition reflects a life committed to painting.

Guild Hall is located at 158 Main Street, East Hampton, NY 11937. www.guildhall.org.
