SUFFOLK COUNTY

EAST ISLIP

Islip Art Museum - "Art at 5o Plus" is on view December 6, 2019 to January 6, 2020.

Opening Receptions were held on Friday, December 6, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, December 7, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The open call exhibition is curated by Holly Gordon and sponsored by AARP. A sprawling show installed salon style, the exhibition presents work by nearly 150 artists selected in response to the theme "Life on Long Island - What it Means to Me."

Exhibiting artists include Janet Culbertson, Karen L. Kirshner, Kurt Giehl, Marilyn Church, Lori Horowitz, Joyce Kubat, Jim Sabiston, Felicitas Wetter, Frank Wimberley and many others. Click here for the full list.

EAST MORICHES

Full Moon Arts Center - “Art as Gift” is on view December 7 to 22, 2019.

An Artists Reception is offered on Saturday, December 7, 2019, from noon to 4 p.m. On Sunday, December 15, 2019, at 1 p.m., Tesla technology takes center stage in a presentation by Jane Alcorn, Tesla Center Board President, who will discuss how Nikola Tesla's patents and innovations led to radios, televisions, remote controls and more. The talk is free.

"Art as Gift" features the work of 14 artists that are part of the artist collective based in the East Moriches art gallery. Exhibiting artists include Peter Beston, Janet Culbertson, Giampaolo Fallai, Vito Gentile, Gina Gilmour, Anna Jurinich, Jane Kirkwood, Elizabeth Malunowicz, Robert Moore, Steve Palumbo, Jonathan Pearlman, Michael Pope, Ronnie Wiener and Valerie Zeman.

HUNTINGTON

fotofoto gallery - "15th Annual Photography Competition Exhibition" is on view from November 27, 2019 through January 4, 2020.

An Opening Reception was held on November 30, 2019 with a Second Reception held on Saturday, December 14, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The exhibition, juried by Dan Burkholder, presents photography by 23 artists, located across the United States. fotofoto gallery is located 14 West Carver Street, Huntington, NY

PATCHOGUE

Claire Davidson Seigel Gallery of the Patchogue-Medford Library presents "Drawings by Jeanette Martone" through December 31, 2019.

The solo show presents pen and ink drawings based on photographs taken by the artist during her travels and humanitarian work in countries set across the world, including the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Martone has a BFA from SUNY Purchase and studied design and anthropology at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Her art has been exhibited across Long Island including on the East End at RJD Gallery as a winner of The Retreat Juried Open Call Show and at the East End Arts Council Gallery.

STONY BROOK

Long Island Museum - "Seen & Unseen: Photographs By Imogen Cunningham" is on view through December 29, 2019 in the Main Gallery of the art museum.

The exhibition presents photographs by Imogen Cunningham (1883-1976), who was a member of the 1930s era photography group Group f.64, named after a small space found on a large format camera, along with fellow members Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Henry Swift and others. An influential photographer in her own right, Cunningham's work is marked by noteworthy levels of technical skill combined with artistic invention, according to the museum.

The exhibition presents 60 silver gelatin prints that include portraits of famous visual artists, Hollywood stars along with botanical studies. The show is organized by The Imogen Cunningham Trust in association with the Photographic Traveling Exhibitions.
