Films, artist presentations and music made our list of the best things to do in The Hamptons this weekend. November continues to be a vibrant one on the East End. Scroll on to discover why. All events take place through November 17, 2019.

1.  OLA Film Festival and Cocktail Reception

The Parrish Art Museum is screening "Antes Que Llegue el Ferry (Before the Ferry Arrives)" on Friday, November 15, 2019, as part of the 16th annual, multi-venue OLA Film Festival curated by the Organización Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island. The program begins with a bi-lingual tour of exhibitions in the museum at 5:30 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception from 6 to 7:15 p.m. and capped off with the film screening at 7:15 p.m.

Joining the tour is photographer Tria Giovan, who will give a short talk on her photos from the 1993 series "The Cuba Archive." Her work is currently exhibited in "Artists Chose Artists," on view at the Parrish through February 23, 2020. The series documents Giovan's travels to Cuba during the economic depression of the Special Period.

The film, "Antes Que Llegue el Ferry (Before the Ferry Arrives)" explores the sense of uncertainty in Cuba when it was announced in 2015 that, after more than 50 years, a ferry service would resume between that country and the United States. It was directed by Juan Caunedo Domínguez, Vladimir García Herrera and Raúl Escobar Delgado.

2.  Film Drama Screens in Westhampton

Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Performing Arts Center is screening the 2019 drama "Light from Light" from Friday, November 15, through Sunday, November 17, 2019. 

Written and directed by Paul Harrill, "Light from Light" Sheila is asked to investigate a potential haunting at a Tennessee farmhouse. It’s there she meets Richard, a recent widower who believes his wife may still be with him. The investigation that ensues forces them to confront the mysteries of their own lives. Starring Marin Ireland and Jim Gaffigan. Click here to view the trailer.

3.  Watermill Center Artist in Residency Presentation

The Watermill Center artists-in-residence Shaun Gladwell, Lynsey Peisinger and Andrina Smithion give a presentation of their work-in-progress on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The afternoon is part of the Watermill Center's "In Process" program, an ongoing series of open rehearsals, workshops, artist talks and studio visits that invite the community to engage with the work of the Center's international artists-in-residence.

4.  Artist Talk at Guild Hall

Guild Hall is hosting a talk with exhibiting artist Joyce Kubat on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 2 p.m. Kubat is the Top Honors recipient of the 79th Artist Members Exhibition.

"Joyce Kubat: My People," curated by Casey Dalene, presents a body of work that the artist has been developing since 2002. These deeply psychological figurative works are created by applying pastels to damp paper, creating a liquid soft skin with deep velvet pigments, to fluid pink inks that have the extraordinary transparency of flesh.These materials have led her to convey an emotionally raw narrative of human anatomy.

5.  Concert at Romany Kramoris Gallery

Romany Kramoris gallery is hosting "Magic Holiday Music," a reception and benefit for the Choral Society of the Hamptons, on Sunday, November 17, 2019, from 3 to 4:30 pm.

To celebrate the Choral Society of the Hamptons' holiday season, David Brandenburg was commissioned by the CSH and conductor Mark Mangini to compose "Dancing: Variations," with the lyrics of Sag Harbor resident Kathryn Levy’s poem. Visitors can enjoy music and meet watercolor artists Adriana Barone and Heidi Rain. A percentage of the season’s sales will be donated to the CSH.
