"Paint and Steel," a two-person show presenting paintings by Deborah Buck and sculpture by Richard Heinrich, drew a devoted crowd of art fans to ILLE Arts in Amagansett on June 22, 2019. This is the second exhibition at ILLE Arts featuring Deborah Buck's art and the first time the artists have been paired together in a show.
The art in "Paint and Steel" is filled with both energy and whimsy. Lines dance in either acrylic or chalk within Buck's paintings and through welded steel constructions that seem to clear the air to make room for interesting figures in motion by Heinrich.
"This new body of work is playful, intriguing and evocative," ILLE Arts director and curator Sara Deluca writes of Buck's art. "Her images have gotten more complex and textural."
Titles from both artists contribute to the overall sense of fun in the exhibition. Show Off, Pastry Shop and Queen Anne's Lace lead viewers into fantastic worlds created by Buck. Lester's Jump, Bebop, Hi-Fly and Bag's Groove are some of the choice titles bestowed by Heinrich upon his art that artful match the abstract figures portrayed in steel.
"Deborah Buck's pieces interact and grow, offset by three dimensional works, while Richard Heinrich's steel pieces gracefully accept the energy and 'come hither' seductiveness of Buck's paintings," Deluca wrote of the pairing.
