Theater and live music are strong in this week's picks of the best thing to do this weekend in The Hamptons and on North Fork. Open Garden Days takes place on Saturday, June 15, 2019 with select private gardens open for touring in East Hampton, NY.

1.  Theater: "The Prompter" Holds Final Performances

Bay Street Theater presents the final weekend of performances for "The Prompter" with shows offered Tuesday through Sunday. Matinees are offered on Wednesday and Sunday at 2 p.m. with evening performances at 7 or 8 p.m.

A World Premier, "The Prompter" is a new comedy by Wade Dooley and is directed by Bay Street Artistic Director Scott Scwartz. The play tells the tale of veteran actress Irene Young's return to Broadway and a young actor who's hired to help provide her lines. Based on a true story, the play provides a behind-the-scenes look at Broadway through the eyes of a young dreamer.

2.  Staged Reading and Radio Play Recalling the Hamptons Nazi Saboteur Landing 

The Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station presents a Staged Reading in the form of a 1940s-style radio broadcast on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 5 p.m.

The Stage Reading re-enacts first-hand accounts of Coast Guard Personnel who were on duty when Nazi Saboteurs came ashore in Amagansett on the night of June 13, 1942, as well as excerpts from the U-boat captain's log. Adopting the style of the 1940s radio broadcast show "Cavalcade of America," the piece is produced and directed by Hugh King with Genie Henderson and Sidney M. Field of LTV.

Admission is free but space is limited. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. The doors open at 4:45 p.m. The Amagansett Life Saving Station is located at 160 Atlantic Avenue, Amagansett, NY 11930. www.amagansettlss.org.

3.  Open Garden Days

Three East Hampton gardens are open to the public on Saturday, June 15, 2019, starting at 10 a.m., as part of The Garden Conservancy's Open Garden Days.

4.  Billy Joel Broadway Band Benefit Concert & Live Art Auction 

A benefit concert, art auction and reception to benefit Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic takes place on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Guild Hall with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The concert presents The Movin' Out Band, featuring the original cast from the Tony Award-winning Billy Joel musical "Movin' Out" performing favorites from the Billy Joel Songbook. The "Artists for Choice" art auction features work by over 45 artists who have donated works.

5.  Vienna Classical Concert

Rites of Spring Music Festival presents its final concert on Saturday, June 15, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Laurel Lake Vineyard on the North Fork.

The Viennese Lyrical Concert presents the Schubert and Schumann lieder featuring performances by soprano Tammy Hensrud, flutist Ginevra Petrucci and pianist Paolo Bartolani, founder and artistic director of the Rites of Spring Music Festival.

Tammy Hensrud has performed at the Metropolitan (New York); Stuttgart, and Vienna State Operas; the Salzburg and Spoleto Festivals and has performed in musical theater, cabaret and more. Ginevra Petrucci has performed in prestigious concert halls throughout Europe along with Carnegie Hall (New York), the Kennedy Center (Washington DC) and venues in Japan, China, South America and the Middle East.

Pollock Krasner House & Study Center presents "Art in Focus with Ruth Appelhof" at Stony Brook Southampton Library in Southampton, NY on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 7 p.m.

Appelhof, Executive Director Emerita Guild Hall, gives a talk on "Lee and Me: An Intimate Portrait of Lee Krasner," an soon-to-be published memoir inspired by Appelhof's time with Lee Krasner in the summer of 1974. Based on interviews with Krasner, as well as her friends, art-world luminaries, artists and others, the book allows a look into the artist's private world and illuminates the art she produced for over six decades. The memoir is being published by Officina Libraria of Milan.
