Classical music concerts abound on both the North and South Forks this weekend. Salon Series 2019 Launch

The Parrish Art Museum opens its annual Salon Series this spring on Friday, April 26, 2019, at 6 p.m. with a concert by Chinese pianist Yi-Nuo Wang.

Yi-Nuo Wang will perform a program of Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) Keyboard Sonata in E minor; followed by Eight Pieces for Piano (Acht Klavierstücke), Op. 76, by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). The concert concludes with four works by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943): Daisies, Op. 38, No. 3; Prelude in G-flat Major Op. 23 No. 10; Etude in D minor Op. 39, No. 8; and Etude in D Major Op. 39, No. 9.

Yi-Nuo Wang, First Prize winner of the 2018 Concert Artists Guild International Competition and 2017 Wideman International Piano Competition among many other prestigious awards, will make her New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in February 2020.

OLA Benefit Art Show

OLA hosts its annual Benefit Art Show at the Southampton Cultural Center on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Proceeds from the art sale, "ROOTS," benefit OLA (Organizacion Latino Americana) and feature art by over 65 artists. Art is curated by Amy Worth and Hector deCordova. The exhibition is on view through May 5, 2019 on Saturdays, noon to 8 p.m. and on Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. and by appointment by calling 631-871-3409. LongHouse Rites of Spring

LongHouse Reserve opens for the season with its annual "Rites of Spring" opening on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event presents a new slate of sculpture installations as well as welcomes visitors to blooming gardens. New art on view this season includes work by Wendell Castle, Jun Kaneko, Joseph Walsh, Young Jae Lee and Will Ryman.

Classical & Contemporary Concert Series Kick Off

Rites of Spring, the annual classical and contemporary music concert series, opens its fourth season on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 5 p.m., with "Transfigured Night: Brahms & Schoenberg String Sextet" at Castello di Borghese in Cutchogue, NY.

Rising Star Piano Series Concert

Southampton Cultural Center offers the next "Rising Stars Piano Series" on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 6 p.m. with a concert by Michelle Cann.
Michelle Cann presents a return engagement in the "Rising Stars Piano Series" with a new program featuring works that transport listeners to the realm of timeless beauty. The concert features the seminal Bach-Busoni Chaconne, the seldom-heard African-American composer Florence Price’s Sonata and Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue.

Film Screening & Talk

Hamptons Doc Fest screens "MILES DAVIS: Birth of the Cool" at Bay Street Theater on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 4 p.m. A Q&A with Urban Jazz Experience Host Ed German immediately follows.

The documentary, by award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson, reveals Miles Davis's restless determination to break boundaries and live life on his own terms. Featuring archival photos, home movies, manuscripts, paintings and interviews with musical luminaries including Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Cobb, Ron Carter and others. Running time is 115 minutes.

Stanley Nelson, who was the Hamptons Doc Fest’s 2015 Career Achievement Award honoree, has the distinction of having more docs play at Sundance (10) than any other director.
