Berry Campbell : "Walter Darby Bannard - Paintings From 1969 to 1975"

Berry Campbell Gallery will present “Walter Darby Bannard - Paintings from 1969 to 1975,” the gallery’s fourth solo exhibition of the late artist’s work.
Featuring 17 important paintings, the exhibition includes several large-scale canvases that have not been seen since the 1970’s. As a leading figure in the development of Color Field Painting, Walter Darby Bannard (1934-2016) created color-based and expressionist abstraction throughout his five-decade career. The exhibition offers a new look at his middle period, in which the artist used Alkyd resin paints instead of the acrylic gels he would later switch to.

Luxembourg & Dayan: “Intimate Immensity: Alberto Giacometti Sculptures, 1935– 1945”
November 11 - December 15, 2018
Luxembourg & Dayan will present “Intimate Immensity: Alberto Giacometti Sculptures, 1935-1945.”
Less than three inches tall and as thin as nails, these intimate and intricately small sculptures of human figures were created by Alberto Giacometti in France and Switzerland during World War II. The unique body of work represents a profoundly transformative phase of his career, revealing the path that lead the artist to the elongated figures he is known for. The first exhibition in the United States dedicated to Giacometti’s cycle of small works, the show follows on the heels of Giacometti’s survey at the Guggenheim and is curated by leading Giacometti scholar Casimiro Di Crescenzo

McKenzie Fine Art: "Mel Bernstine"

McKenzie Fine Art will present “Mel Bernstine,” the abstract artist’s second solo exhibition with the gallery.
Mel Bernstine, an abstract artist who spends his time between Paris and Marrakech, creates work with an interest in emergent structures and the appearance of patterns and complexity from a multiplicity of relatively simple interactions. His solo exhibition is dominated by three compositional types, in which he begins his paintings with discrete motifs and progresses to new discoveries, allowing the compositions to emerge organically and intuitively. Bernstine's art features free-wheeling compositions with regular and irregular geometries, boldly-patterned, nesting angular geometries in vivid color, and black-and-white checkerboards with twists and warps that create unpredictable optical effects.
