The East End art gallery scene is especially vibrant this weekend with new shows holding receptions and talks from Friday to Sunday in The Hamptons and on the North Fork. New shows including cutting edge contemporary, contemporary realism, photography, and paintings inspired by local areas. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2
SOUTHAMPTON ARTS CENTER - "LIGHT OF THE OCEAN" has an Opening Reception on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. Southampton Arts Center is transformed into a site-specific installation by Francisco Alvarado-Juárez, a New York-based American artist born in Honduras. The artist is assisted by a team, including experts from Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program and community volunteers, to create an installation that conjures a marine environment that also stands in as a metaphor for the complexity of the human condition. IRON GATE EAST - "Love Is Not All" has on Opening Reception on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at its new pop up location sited at Luxury Modern Village Home by Devito & Company, located at 230 Bishops Lane, Southampton, NY. The exhibition features new works by Meghan Boody, Patti Grabel, Ryan Michael Kelly, Jeff Muhs and Richard Pasquarelli. Food for the reception provided by Hamptons Farm. The exhibition continues on view through December 10, 2018 and is viewable on Thursdays, from 5 to 8 p.m., and by appointment.

AMAGANSETT
VICTOR D'AMICO INSTITUTE OF ART (VDIA) at AMAGANSETT LIBRARY - "Promised Land Remembered" has an Opening Talk and Reception on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibition revisits a similar one held earlier this year at the Art Barge, featuring early tempera on paper paintings by Mabel D'Amico from the 1939 to 1940s. The art and historical narratives recall the historic activity of the former fishing port and menhaden processing plant located off Cranberry Hole Road in Amagansett, NY, which also influenced the cultural and artist communities on the East End.
Talks at the reception will be offered by VDIA President Christopher Kohn, exhibition co-organizer Rachel Gruze and David Clarke, grandnephew of Smith Meal Co. fish factory founder Gilbert P. Smith. Memories of Promised Land are welcome in written or oral form. The Amagansett Library is located at 215 Main Street, Amagansett, NY 11930.
