AMAGANSETT

VICTOR D'AMICO INSTITUTE OF ART (VDIA) at AMAGANSETT LIBRARY - "Promised Land Remembered" has an Opening Talk and Reception on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibition revisits a similar one held earlier this year at the Art Barge, featuring early tempera on paper paintings by Mabel D'Amico from the 1939 to 1940s. The art and historical narratives recall the historic activity of the former fishing port and menhaden processing plant located off Cranberry Hole Road in Amagansett, NY, which also influenced the cultural and artist communities on the East End.

Talks at the reception will be offered by VDIA President Christopher Kohn, exhibition co-organizer Rachel Gruze and David Clarke, grandnephew of Smith Meal Co. fish factory founder Gilbert P. Smith. Memories of Promised Land are welcome in written or oral form. The Amagansett Library is located at 215 Main Street, Amagansett, NY 11930.
