In Fall, The Hamptons is a great place to be for art and culture. There's more room on the sidewalks and outdoor pastimes begin sharing equal billing with indoor entertainment including performance, art openings, talks and interesting things to do. To make planning easy, following is our list of the best things to do in October 2018 after Columbus Day Weekend.
1. Wolffer Estate - Candlelight Fridays in the Tasting Room
The Tasting Room at Wolffer Estate Vineyard becomes especially magical on Friday evenings when its enlivened by live jazz. A fall and spring favorite, Candlelight Fridays returns on October 19, 2018 and is held weekly. Vanessa Trouble performs on October 19, 2018 and Ludmilla on October 26, 2018.

2. Halloween Gets Extra Spooky at the Haunted Rogers Mansion in Southampton Village
For the month of October, the Rogers Mansion of the Southampton Historical Society has ghosts as housemates, just in time for the Halloween season. Exhibitions revealing days gone by in Southampton are on view with spirits from the past manifesting to help make the season a spooky one along with a few special events.
To get into the scary (but fun) state of mind, there’s a Frankenstein film screening on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. (held at Rogers Memorial Library, 91 Coopers Farm Road in Southampton Village) and explore the Rogers Mansion and beyond with a team of real Ghostbusters in “Paranormal Exploration” on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. Rogers Mansion has been transformed into a haunt for the supernatural throughout October. Visit the Rogers Mansion to compare what's real and what's imagined throughout October on Wednesdays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Touring the Haunted Rogers Mansion is $5 for adults and non-members, free for members and children and continues through November 3, 2018. The Frankenstein film screening is free. "Paranormal Exploration" tour is $10, free for members and children under 17 years old.

3. Performance: "The Red Badge of Courage" at Southampton Cultural Center
October 19 to November 4, 2018
Stephen Crane's classic Civil War novel "The Red Badge of Courage" comes to the stage at the Southampton Cultural Center, co-presented by the boots on the ground theater company. Performances will be held October 19 to November 4, 2018, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. On November 4, 2018, a special free encore performance for veterans and their families will be presented at 6 p.m.
The Red Badge of Courage centers on Henry Fleming, a young Union soldier who battles his inner demons as he runs from and eventually faces his greatest fears. Published in 1895, the Red Badge of Courage is considered one of the first great war novels and has never gone out of print.
Historical accuracy is a high priority for producer Bonnie Grice and costumes and props have been sourced to stay true to the period. An exhibition of Civil War memorabilia will be on display in the Cultural Center’s gallery, curated by Stephen Gould in collaboration with the Southampton Historical Museum.
General Admission is $25 and $12 for students under 21 years old with ID. Dinner and theater packages with the Plaza Cafe are $69. For the special free encore performance on November 4, 2018, veterans are required to reserve tickets in advance by emailing Kirsten Lonnie at [email protected].

4. Guild Hall Fall Exhibitions Kick Off with a Members Reception & Exhibition Talk
Guild Hall opens its fall exhibition season with a trio of shows: "Syd Solomon: Concealed and Revealed"; "Please Send To: Ray Johnson, Selections from the Permanent Collection" and "Sara Mejia Kriendler: In Back of Beyond." The entire trio is on view October 20 to December 16, 2018.
Museum members get to see the new shows with fanfare in a Members Reception on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. (Click here to become a member and attend). On Sunday, October 21, 2018, at 1 p.m. artist Mike Solomon gives a Talk on his father, Syd Solomon. The talk is free and open to the public. The shows continue on view through December 16, 2018.

5. Performance: "A Comedy of Tenors" by Hampton Theatre Company in Quogue
October 25 – November 11, 2018
Hamptons Theatre Company opens its 2018-19 Season with "A Comedy of Tenors" by Ken Ludwig’s “A Comedy of Tenors.” Performances are held at the Quogue Community Hall and take place October 25 to November 10, 2018. Performances are held Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m.; Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Dinner packages are available and an extra matinee will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. prior to the 8 p.m. performance.
Featuring several characters from his Tony Award-winning “Lend Me a Tenor,” “A Comedy of Tenors” is set in a hotel suite in 1930s Paris and follows the fortunes of four tenors, two wives and three girlfriends as they struggle hilariously with outsize egos, mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks and madcap antics in preparation for a concert at a soccer stadium filled with impatient screaming fans.

6. Classical Music at the Parrish
The Parrish Art Museum continues classical music performances for its Salon Series, designed to introduce a new generation of classical musicians in intimate concerts. Held on Friday nights at 6 p.m., concerts center upon classical repertoire and are co-programmed with Concert Artists Guild and Pro Musicis. Each performance runs approximately 75 to 90 minutes.

7. LongHouse "Open Days" on Saturdays
The grounds of LongHouse Reserve continue to be lovely in October. The East Hampton museum of art, design and horticulture can be visited throughout October in "Open Days" held from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The art on view includes work by Willem de Kooning, John Chamberlain, Alyson Shotz, Helmut Lang, Judith Shea and others. Set on 16 acres, there are plenty of paths to stroll and art to see while enjoying fall's splendor.
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and free for LongHouse members, children under 12 accompanied by an adult and high school and college students with Student ID.

8. Jazz Jam Session Thursday nights at Union Cantina
Sag Harbor's popular Thursday Night Jam Session moves to Southampton into its new home at Union Cantina, Every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., world class jazz musicians share the stage with Hampton's best jazz talents. In addition, a Special Guest Series and Afro/Latin Jazz Nights keep the weekly jazz sessions fresh and lively.
Each Wednesday, Thursday Night Jam Sessions are broadcast the following Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. on WPPB Peconic Public Broadcasting 88.3 FM in the weekly "Jam Session Radio Hour." Jazz is produced by The Jam Sessions.

9. American Idol winner Caleb Johnson Performs Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" & More Music
American Idol winner Caleb Johnson hits the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts stage on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 8 p.m. to recreate, in song, antics set to "the dashboard light" and other Meat Loaf favorites.
Created and produced by Meat Loaf’s musical director/ guitarist/ record producer, Paul Crook, American Idol winner Caleb Johnson and The Neverland Band put their own unique stamp to Meatloaf classics such as "Bat Out of Hell," "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," and "I Would Do Anything For Love" and others while remaining true to Meat Loaf's delivery.

10. Performance: "ANIMAL FAMILY" by El Colegio del Curepo Dance Company at Southampton Arts Center
Watermill Center October artists in residency El Colegio del Curepo Dance Company break their creative solitude to premiere "ANIMAL FAMILY" at the Southampton Arts Center on October 28, 2018 at 4 p.m. Led by choreographer Álvaro Restrepo and danced by La Compañía del Cuerpo de Indias, a professional group of El Colegio del Curepo - The School of The Body, the performance is bound to be an interesting one. Costumes are expected to be designed by Olga Piedrahita with paintings by Leopoldo J. Combariza, according to the Southampton Arts Center.
