The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) selected Southampton artist Paton Miller to design its 2018 poster. The poster received its debut this week. Featuring a single commercial fishing boat cutting through choppy seas, the boat casts a yellowed light as it navigates through stormy conditions. Narrative with strong fields of dark and light, the painting replicated on the HIFF poster is distinctly Paton Miller.

Paton Miller has lived and worked in Southampton, NY for over three decades. For years, he painted in Fairfield Porter's former barn studio in Southampton Village. From its second story, a timeless rooftop and bucolic view could still be witnessed when the barn doors were aloft. After the Porter's house was sold, Miller built a studio on the grounds of his home, where he continues to paint today. Exhibiting both nationally and internationally, Miller's art is exhibited frequently in the Hamptons...often in unusual places, pop up shows or Hamptons galleries.

Paton Miller's work is held in the collections of Guild Hall and the Parrish Art Museum in The Hamptons, the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook on Long Island, the Muscarelle Museum of Art at College of William and Mary in Williamburg, VA and the American Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Bogota, Columbia.

For the last four years running, Miller has curated the popular "East End Collects" exhibition at Southampton Arts Center, where he creates a sprawling show of artists working in The Hamptons.

Miller joins a long line of esteemed artists who have been invited to design the Hamptons International Film Festival Poster. Artists making art for the poster include David SalleCindy Sherman, Donald Sultan, Julian Schnabel, Barbara Kruger, Dan Rizzie, Jim Gingerich, Billy Sullivan, Cecily Brown, Eric Fischl, Bruce Weber and April Gornik. All of the artists live  in The Hamptons either part-time or full-time.

The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) will be held October 4-8, 2018. Passes and packages will go on sale Wednesday, September 5. Individual tickets will be available on Monday, September 24. For details, visit www.hamptonsfilmfest.org.

Selections from the Hamptons International Film Festival can play a role during awards season. 2018 marks the 8th time in a row that a film in the Festival has become the eventual Best Picture winner at the Oscars, making HIFF the only Festival on the East Coast with such a distinction, according to HIFF.
