ARTISTS SPEAK: Judith Hudson with Lucy Winton

The Victor D'Amico Institute of Art presents “ARTISTS SPEAK: Judith Hudson in conversation with Lucy Winton,” on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 6 p.m. The talk will be held at The Art Barge.

This conversation will kick off the The Art Barge’s seasonal series ARTIST SPEAK. Judith Hudson will discuss her art and process, personal and professional history, and current topics related to her most recent work, all in an informal conversation with fellow artist Lucy Winton. Hudson is currently exhibiting in “Under the Covers” at Tripoli Gallery. She will discuss how she arrived at this material, content, and place in her work.

Artist Talk with Anthony Heinz May

Iron Gate East presents “In Person: A Conversation with Artist Anthony Heinz May” on Friday, June 15, 2018, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.The talk will be held at the galleries popup summer location at The Spur’s in Southampton.

Anthony Heinz May is one of the three exhibition artists featured in the show “UNRAVELLED BEAUTY,” curated by Iron Gate East founder Kelcey Edwards on view at The Spur through June 17, 2018. May will deliver a presentation and lecture overview of his sculpture and installation work and discuss his background, influences, methodology and inspiration, followed by an audience Q&A.

PechaKucha Night at The Parrish

The Parrish Art Museum presents “PechaKucha Night Hamptons, Vol. 24” on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 6 p.m.

As the official site for the Hamptons, we join over 700 cities globally in hosting "PechaKucha Nights," named for the sound of "chit-chat" in Japanese. Each invited presenter gets 20 slides x 20 seconds per slide to talk about living creatively on the East End. Establish new relationships, learn about local resources, and hear from the many artists, writers, musicians, gardeners, farmers, baymen, winemakers, chefs, designers, architects, and other creative professionals of our region.

Women & Whaling: A Multimedia Presentation

The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum presents “Women and Whaling: A Salty Mix of Short Play, Tales of Three Who Went to Sea, a Diagram or Two, and a Sea Shanty or Three,” on Friday, June 15, 2018, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Hear playwright Martha Pichey tell the tales of three brave women who defied convention and went to sea. Lizzie Edwards was a whaling captain’s wife from Sag Harbor, Emma Armstrong a young navigator who saved her father’s ship from disaster, and the intrepid George Leonard harbored a secret that took months for fellow whalers to uncover. The evening will begin with actors reading an excerpt from her new play, “Drowning on Dry Land,” set in New Bedford in 1871.

Performance Series at The White Room Gallery 

The White Room Gallery presents the first of their new performance art series on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. I AM, the globally celebrated all female arts collective will present three live art experiences in a summer series engaging all the senses.

For the series’ debut, I AM will draw inspiration by the convictions of pop artists exhibited in "FLASHBACK." The performance event is expected to dive into the themes of freedom, fame, and a pop retro past through dynamic contemporary dance and live painting using body movement. Additional performances take place on July 21 and August 18, 2018. Guests can expect I AM to create three different atmospheres through performance, which will be paired with wine and cheese to enhance each unique mood.

Attacca Quartet Performs in Quogue

Quogue Chamber Music presents “Attacca Quartet” on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.at the Quogue Community Hall.

The Attacca Quartet was formed at the Juilliard School in 2003 and made their professional debut in 2007 as part of the Artists International Winners Series in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. From 2011-2013 they served as the Juilliard Graduate Resident String Quartet, and for the 2014-15 season, they were selected as the Quartet in Residence by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. They are engaged in extensive educational and community outreach projects. The program being performed in Quogue will include Haydn String Quartet, Op. 33, No.3 “The Bird,” Shostakovich String Quartet No. 3, and Schumann String Quartet No. 3.

Live Documentary Screening

Guild Hall presents “The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller: Sam Green & Yo La Tengo,” on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller” is an hour-long “live documentary” from Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Sam Green exploring Fuller’s utopian vision of radical social change through a design revolution. Originally commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Design and Architecture Department, the project is a collaboration between Green and the indie band Yo La Tengo. At each screening, Green narrates the film in person and cues images while Yo La Tengo performs their original score.
