KATHERINE LIEPE-LEVINSON PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITED AT THE OTHER ART FAIR BROOKLYN AND AT EAST END GALLERIES

Katherine Liepe-Levinson’s award-winning photography will be featured at Booth 84 of The Other Art Fair Brooklyn held May 3-6, 2018.

Katherine Liepe-Levinson is one of 130 international artists who were juried into The Other Art Fair Brooklyn's edition held at the Brooklyn Expo Center. Katherine’s work has been displayed on journal, magazine, and book covers. Her photography was twice selected for the annual juried show “Endangered” (Miami, 2016, 2015). She continues to exhibit in multiple New York galleries including Alex Ferrone Gallery  on the North Fork (awarded First Place in the National juried show, “Water” (2017), East End Arts in Riverhead (twice Best in Show and other awards), Rosalie Dimon Gallery on the North Fork, Richard Demato Gallery and The White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton, NY and the Southampton Cultural Center in Southampton, N.Y.  Her work is held in collections of museums, business corporations and private collectors.

Katherine’s on-going "Earth/Water" Series uses the “close up” to explore local New York ponds and waterways. Her almost abstract images are testaments to the preciousness of our natural resources, says the artist. They also are an unabashed homage to Monet who stated, “The richness I achieve comes from nature, the source of my inspiration.” Monet avers that land (and water) scapes do not exist in their own right for they change at every moment due to “…the light and the air which vary continually.”

The vibrant colors, unusual patterns, and dance of light, signature to Katherine’s "Earth/Water" series, are produced through fluctuations in available light, shifting wind patterns on the water and in the foliage, reflections, and fast shutter speeds. Her images are single exposures with no Photoshop additions or filters.

Small works are printed on fine art papers with larger pieces printed on white aluminum dibond and acrylic glass. These materials add to the painterly, stained-glass effects, which encourage viewers to look a little longer and ponder more deeply on the rare world we live in—a world whose care is our collective responsibility.

In addition to photography, Katherine Liepe-Levinson has worked as a professional dancer and actor both on and off-Broadway. She earned a PhD in Theatre from New York City's CUNY Graduate Center (1993), and taught full-time for Colgate University, creating arts-based community outreach programs for public schools (1993-2000). Returning to New York City, Katherine continued to work for public school art programs throughout New York City, founding and directing Muse Educational Resources, Inc. (2001-2011).

For the last decade, Katherine Liepe-Levinson has focused her creative energies on fine art photography, working to promote greater awareness and protections for our natural resources. She embarked on this journey following her engagement as a featured artist-player for the Marian Goodman Gallery’s presentation of Tino Sehgal’s, “This Situation 2007-8NYC.
