Spring weather may not be here yet but there is plenty to do in the Hamptons and East End this weekend. Ring in the first official week of spring with the first THAW FEST, Writers Speak Wednesdays with poet Jericho Brown, a sculpture workshop with artist Alice Hope at Southampton Arts Center and plenty more. Poet Jericho Brown Talks 

Stony Brook Southampton MFA in Creative Writing and Literature presents “Writers Speak Wednesdays: Jericho Brown,” on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 7 p.m. The reception starts at 6:30 p.m.

Jericho Brown is the recipient of a Whiting Writers' Award and fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Brown’s first poetry collection, “Please,” won the 2009 American Book Award. His second, “The New Testament,” was named one of the year's best by the Academy of American Poets.

Sculpture Workshop with Artist Alice Hope

The Southampton Arts Center presents “TABS & TUBES – Make Your Own Coffee Table Sculpture, with 'Radical Voice' Artist Alice Hope” on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 6 p.m.

From a communal pile of used can tabs, attendees will string them on tubing to transform into dynamic works of art perfect for your coffee table. Alice Hope was recently named the 2018 “ Woman to Watch” for New York by the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and will be showing works at NMWA this summer. Concurrent to the “Radical Voice” show, Alice Hope has a one-person show at Guild Hall running through March 25, 2018. She holds an MFA from Yale University and exhibits with Ricco Maresca Gallery in New York.

Film on Artist Winfred Rembert & Talk with Filmmaker

The Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival and John Jermain Library presents FilmArts+Forum: "All Me: The Life and Times of Winfred Rembert" on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 7 to 8:30  p.m. Held at the John Jermain Library in Sag Harbor, a Q&A will follow with the filmmaker, Vivian Ducat.

In the film, artist Winfred Rembert relives his turbulent life as visualized through his extensive paintings that are part of the movie. "All Me: The Life and Times of Winfred Rembert" (74 mins) presents a portrait an artist and his art is made that is also a triumphant saga of race in contemporary America.

Hampton Theatre Company’s “The Boys Next Door”

The Hampton Theatre Company presents “The Boys Next Door” opening on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Quogue Community Hall and running through April 8, 2018. Shows will be held on Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. On Friday, March 23, 2018, a Talkback follows the 7 p.m. performance with the director and members of the cast.

“The Boys Next Door”—a comedy by Tom Griffin about four men with various mental disabilities living in a group home—will be the third play of the Hampton Theatre Company’s 2017-2018 season. The cast features Matt Conlon, Jessica Howard, Scott Hofer, Dorian M. O’Brien, Spencer Scott and Paul Velutis.

National Theatre presents "Young Marx" Screening

Peconic Landing presents "Captured Live in HD! National Theatre presents: Young Marx," on Sunday, March 25, 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m. 

Broadcast live from The Bridge Theatre, London, the production of "Young Marx' is directed by Nicholas Hytner and reunites the creative team behind Broadway and West End hit comedy "One Man, Two Guvnors." Rory Kinnear (The Threepenny Opera, Penny Dreadful, Othello) is Marx and Oliver Chris (Twelfth Night, Green Wing) is Engels, in this new comedy written by Richard Bean and Clive Coleman.

THAW FEST: The Hamptons Arts Weekend

"THAW FEST: The Hamptons Arts Weekend" is being held for the first time from Friday, March 23 through Sunday, March 25, 2018 at a variety of venues in The Hamptons from Westhampton Beach to East Hampton, NY. The splash of cultural events is being presented by the newly-formed Hamptons Arts Network, a co-joining of a select art and cultural non-profit organizations who aim to put the East End on the map as a cultural destination...even in the off-season.
