RJD Gallery welcomed a vibrant crowd to the Bridgehampton art gallery for its 2018 Season Opener "A Brief History." Held on February 10, 2018, people in attendance included guest exhibition curator Dexter Wimberly, exhibiting artist Jules Arthur, multiple art collectors and members of the Hamptons art community.

"A Brief History" celebrates Black History Month with art by Jules Arthur, Margaret Bowland, Sylvia Maier, Fahamu Pecou, Phillip Thomas, Alain Vaes and others. Artists selected for the show represent a group of multicultural, cross-generational artists presenting diverse visions of Black identity, according to the gallery. The works also express social and political progress that defined the past half-century while providing a fresh vision for the future, RJD Gallery explained. Click here to see artworks in the show.

Exhibition curator Dexter Wimberly has curated over 40 shows in his decades-long career. Featuring emerging and mid-career artists, shows have been presented in museums and galleries set around the world including Museum of Arts and Design (New York), The California African American Museum (Los Angeles) bitforms gallery (New York), Koki Arts gallery (Tokyo); The Third Line gallery (Dubai) and others. He is currently the Executive Director of Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art, located in Newark, New Jersey.

“A Brief History” will remain on view at RJD Gallery through March 18, 2018. Continue scrolling to see the people who turned out to make the Art Opening a special one.
