Ready for the weekend yet? The first week of August brings a busy one to The Hamptons and East End with film screenings, live music, comic book happenings and the openings of numerous new museum shows. Jewish Film Festival Screening at Guild Hall

No Place on Earth screens as part of the Jewish Film Festival on Thursday, August 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Guild Hall. Chris Nicola is the Guest Speaker. The screening is presented in collaboration with Southampton Cultural Center and Chabad of Southampton Jewish Center.

No Place on Earth explores the story of the Priest's Grotto Cave. A group of Jewish families survived the Holocaust by hiding underground in the caves for over a year during WWII. The story was only a rumor until caver Chris Nicola found objects such as an antique ladies show and an old world key in the cave, and confirmed his findings by locating 14 of the 38 cave dwellers. This documentary delves into their experiences.

The Watermill Center Summer Lecture Series - Enric Ruiz Geli

Enric Ruiz Geli | IT IS ALL ABOUT PARTICLES takes place on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The talk is part of The Watermill Center's Summer Lecture Series.

Enric Ruiz Geli will speak about the work of his interdisciplinary architectural team, Cloud 9, based in Barcelona. The team makes use of intersections between architecture, art, digital processes and technological material development to create green structures that emulate the structures inherent in nature. Projects include buildings, stage design, installations and patents.

The Springs Invitational 

The Springs Invitational has an Opening Reception on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through August 20, 2017.

An initiative of the Springs Improvement Society, the Springs Invitational has brought together artists working in East Hampton Town and beyond. Led by an invited curator, this year’s Invitational carries extra weight as it is the 50th anniversary. This year's show is curated by Terri Kennedy.

Greenport Gallery Walk

The Greenport Gallery Walk holds its next self-guided art walk in the Village of Greenport on Friday, August 4,  2017 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Art galleries and artist studios welcome late night visitors with special events and exhibitions. Select village merchants also stay open late. The event repeats the first Friday evening of every month through December 2017. Attending the event is free. Most galleries and businesses are located along Main Street (Route 25) plus South Street and Carpenter Street in the Village of Greenport on the North Fork.

BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance at Southampton Arts Center

Teresa Fellion Dance Company presents an outdoor preview on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 5 p.m. followed by a full performance in the Theater at 6:30 p.m. of three works in BodyStories repertory; The Warm-Up, from an idea by Bruce Buschel, Agawam, and HOME. An encore performance will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 4 p.m.

BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance is a contemporary dance company that presents interpretations of universal human experiences through movement. The highly choreographed and dynamic performances often incorporate live music and collaborations in lighting, costume and video along with emotional, political and humorous touches.

Second Annual East Hampton Comic Extravaganza

The Second Annual East Hampton Comic Extravaganza takes place on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in East Hampton, N.Y.

Visitors are invited to meet artists and writers at this comic book and illustration focused event. Attendees are welcome to dress up as their favorite characters and bring their families to the one day pop-up comic festival. The event was founded by Nancy Silberkleit, Co-CEO of Archie Comics.
