The 79th Guild Hall Artists Members Exhibition is now accepting registration at GuildHall.org for the oldest non-juried museum exhibition on Long Island. The show is one of the few non-juried exhibitions still offered in the region. The Artists Members show opens on April 8, 2017 with a reception from 4 - 6 pm and remains on through Saturday June 3, 2017. 

Top Honors in the exhibition received a solo show at Guild Hall's Spiga Gallery. Other awards are bestowed in multiple categories. This year's Awards Judge is Ruba Katrib, curator at SculptureCenter in Long Island City in Queens. Most recently, Katrib was named as a curatorial advisor to Frieze London for its Focus section for its October 2017 art fair, according to ArtNEWS.

To apply to Guild Hall's Artists Members Exhbition, online applications are preferred way to go. In a change from earlier editions, there will be NO in-person applications accepted. Artists can become members of Guild Hall by clicking here. Every artist member who submits an entry will be included in the exhibition. There is a $40 entry fee in addition to an active Guild Hall membership.

Online applications will be accepted through Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 5 p.m. Click here to enter.

Mailed entries must be postmarked by March 10, 2017. Paper registration packages for mailing are available by request via phone at 631.324.0806 or online at GuildHall.org. 

Artwork drop off for registered works is March 31 and April 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Guild Hall.

The exhibition itself will be held April 8 to June 3, 2017.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for artists to exhibit their work in this long-standing exhibition which is viewed as kicking off the art season in the Hamptons,” said Guild Hall Director/Chief Curator Christina Strassfield. “Every artist in our community is invited to join Guild Hall and participate with the potential of being awarded a solo exhibition.”

In addition to Top Honors, the awards include Best Representational Painting, Best Abstract Painting, Best Sculpture, Best Work on Paper, Best Mixed Media, Best Photograph, and numerous Honorable Mention citations, along with the $250 Catherine and Theo Hios Landscape Award and the Best New Member Artist presented to one artist who is new to the members exhibition or who has not entered in the past five years.

Guild Hall’s Artist Members Exhibition annually features more than 400 artists. This year's exhibition will be coordinated by Stephanie deTroy Miller, Guild Hall’s Registrar/Curatorial Assistant/Lewis B. Cullman Associate for Museum Education. The installation design is by Christina Mossaides Strassfield, Director/Chief Curator of Guild Hall Museum.

Exhibition Juror Ruba Katrib is SculptureCenter's Curator and is responsible for organizing exhibitions, educational and public programs and publications. At SculptureCenter, Katrib has produced the group shows: "The Eccentrics" (2015), "Puddle, Pothole, Portal" (2014) (co-curated with artist Camille Henrot), "Better Homes" (2013), and "A Disagreeable Object" (2012). Recent solo shows include those featuring work by Rochelle Goldberg, Anthea Hamilton, Gabriel Sierra, Magali Reus, Michael E. Smith and Erika Verzutti.

In her previous post as the Associate Curator at North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), she organized several solo and group exhibition including "The Reach of Realism" (2009), the first museum retrospectives of Cory Arcangel and Claire Fontaine (both 2010). In New York, she also co-curated "Visitors," a group exhibition of public art with Tom Eccles on Governors Island (2015). As a writer, Katrib has contributed magazines including Art in America, Parkett and cura.
