The Islip Art Museum presents its second edition of "Slide Slam 2" at RIPE Art Gallery in Huntington on Wednesday, October 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sponsored in conjunction with the Long Island Museum and RIPE Art Gallery, the artist-centric program is designed to give artists selected from an Open Call the chance for exposure in communities across Long Island and to discuss their art at an event filled with artists and art professionals. Hamptons Art Hub is the media sponsor for the series.
The first round was held at Islip Art Museum in August and featured presentations by Martin Andrews; Ayako Bando; Ye-seul Choi; Sage Cotignola; Michele Dragonetti; Lisa Federici; Samantha Hernandez; Kathryn Ko; Rachelle Krieger; Neil Leinwohl; Juan Lopez Espantaleon; Kasmira Mohanty; Anne Sherwood Pundyk; Ching Wen Tsai and Qin Han.
The second edition of Slide Slam 2 at RIPE Art Gallery has a theme of "Art & Agriculture." Artists presenting include Scott Farrell, Nicole Franz, Colin Goldberg, Arline Goldstein, Gerry Hirschstein, Andrea Manning, Dinah Maxwell-Smith, Eric Murphy, Harold Naideau, John Prudente, Will Puntarich, Lealand Eve Richard, Alisa Shea, Courtney Surmanek, Tmima Z, Andrew Williams-Leazer and Courtney Young.
The event's featured speaker is artist and educator Jeffrey Allen Price.
The goal of the Slide Slam Series is to create cross currents between the far-flung artist communities of Long Island by providing artist exposure and exhibition opportunities in areas where the artist might not have a recognition base. To achieve this goal, selected artists for exhibition opportunities will be matched with venues outside of their community.
The IAM 2016 Slide Slam Series is part of the Islip Art Museum's IAM Unifying Project, funded in part by Suffolk County. The third event in the Slide Slam 2 series will be held at the Long Island Museum on November 12, 2016 from 3 to 6 p.m.
The 2016 IAM Unifying project focuses on creating opportunities and merging LI's creative clusters in efforts to address the lack of national awareness for Long Island's thriving artistic community. Hosting opportunities for future installments in the Slide Slam program are still available. For details, contact Beth Giacummo at Beth.firstname.lastname@example.org.
