Art Space 98 is proud to present the exhibition: Transformation featuring recent Oil Paintings on canvas by Swiss-born artist Thomas Bühler who lives in New York City and Montauk. Transformation is on view from August 26 to September 26, 2016. An Opening Reception takes place on Sunday, August 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Bühler who also has a Masters in Medical Science from University Zürich was always fascinated by the evolution of life: the journey from magma to single-celled organisms—to multicellular creatures—to fish—to mammals—to Homo sapiens over billions of years; as well as the development from egg and sperm—to blastula—to fetus—to a wholly differentiated living being. “For Billions of years, single-celled creatures had the planet to themselves, floating through the oceans in solitary bliss,” writes James O’Brien in Quanta Magazine.

Thomas Bühler's recent paintings are radiant portraits of energy with their own logic and structure. Bühler captures the essence of creative force with his color palette of bright yellow, blue, turquoise, purple and red. Clear geometrical and outreaching forms evoke Native-American Indigenous images and echo the symbolic language of comic strips. “I’m trying to express some kind of primordial communication that is pre-language,says Bühler.

In the series “Yin – Yang” and “Double Face” Buehler explores the dichotomy of light and darkness, primordial man and decay, microcosm and macrocosm. The luminous oil paintings contain vibrant colors in ray-like spines expanding into the universe. Strong geometric structures simultaneously convey a sense of stillness and motion.

Bühler’s art is strongly influenced by his love of nature: the frequent travels to the Sonoran desert of the Western United States, the arid cactus flats of Baja California Sur, Mexico, and the lively and colorful markets of Southern Mexico.

Since childhood, Bühler’s primary interest has been art, which he later integrated into his professional work as Expressive Therapist, in which he utilized different Medias like painting, poetry, music, dance and Gestalt Therapy.

Bühler moved to New York City 30 years ago and soon discovered Montauk, where he does much of his painting. He studied art at The Art Students League, NYC; Instituto de Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; and with painter Francis Bott in Paris.

He has shown his work in solo shows at Broome Street Gallery, NYC; Gallery Gora, Montréal; The Office Gallery, NYC;  Eric’s Studio Fine Art, Newark, NJ; The New World Art Centre, NYC;   Depot Gallery, Montauk, NY and Gallery Meyer, Zürich, Switzerland; as well in group shows in New York City and in Switzerland.

His work is represented in Corporate and Private Collections.
