The Parrish Art Museum celebrated the openings of two exhibitions with two event receptions taking place last weekend. Invited guests received a first look at a Preview reception on Saturday, October 24, 2015, with Museum Members having their own Reception on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Both events featured informative discussions by those who were involved in making both exhibitions a reality.

Each respective event was opened with a talk with exhibiting artist Alexis Rockman with Parrish Director Terrie Sultan on the making of the site-specific drawings that compose the exhibition installation "Alexis Rockman: East End Field Drawings".  The drawings are all made from organic material discovered during Rockman's field expeditions on the East End, making use of sand, soil or other natural items with acrylic polymer on paper.

The talk was followed by a panel led by Parrish Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator, Art and Education Alicia Longwell with exhibition catelogue contributors Karin Roffman, Mimi Thompson and Deborah Rothschild. The trio discussed the relationship between Freilicher and Wilson and helped put the women's art practices into the context of the art movements of their time and the ways each followed their own inspiration and unique visions to make their paintings and art.

"Jane Freilicher and Jane Wilson: Seen and Unseen" presents 21 paintings from Freilicher, 19 paintings from Wilson plus three portraits of the women made by Alex Katz or Fairfield Porter.
