DIANA MALCOLMSON

Diana Malcolmson spent her childhood in the heart of the English countryside, in the southern county of Hampshire. She learned to ride horses at the early age of four. She came to the United States in 1967 and moved permanently to Shelter Island in 1971. She bought a pony for her daughter and soon found that she was teaching many of the island children to ride. In 1986 she founded Hampshire Farms Equestrian Center Ltd. on Shelter Island which she ran until 2006.

Malcolmson started her painting career at London University and when she moved to New York she studied with Stephen Csoka, Leon Krol and Robert Phillips at the National Academy. She studied at the Art's Students League with the portrait painter William Draper, who painted the official presidential portrait of John F. Kennedy. She became a student of Henry Hensche of Provincetown, Rhode Island, who was the right hand assistant to Charles Hawthorne, the founder of the Cape Cod School of Art. She received her B.F.A. and B.S. at the Southampton Campus of Long Island University.
