There are plenty of art and cultural events to experience on the East End this weekend. Among them are a reception for new paintings by Cornelia Foss at Peter Marcelle Project and a group exhibition at Sara Nightingale Gallery on Saturday. HARPER’S BOOKS - “Margo Walowiec / Travess Smalley” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through July 7. Wolowiec weaves handmade canvases with a traditional loom and Smalley creates algorhythmic imagery with modern computer technology. THE ROSS SCHOOL - “The Illusion of Definition” has an Opening Reception on Friday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 23. GREENPORT

PECONIC LANDING - “Converse: Where Poetry Meets Music” takes place on Sunday at 3 p.m. The event is an improvisational concert combining jazz, classical piano, and poetry. The afternoon includes poetry by Jane Shaffer and piano footnotes by Timothy Marquand. The event is free. Reservations are required. SAG HARBOR

BAY STREET THEATER -“Creators, Cocktails & Conversations: Novel Ideas” takes place on Friday at 5 p.m. Six novelists will take to the stage to share their novels with the audience. The writers of the evening are Aliza Licht (Leave Your Mark), Suzanne Corso (Hello Hollywood), Kate Betts (My Paris Dream), Colleen Saidman (Yoga For Life) and co-writers Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza (The Knockoff). Tickets are $20. A glass of wine is included.

“Altman’s Art” takes place on Monday at 7 p.m. The event includes a screening of Gosford Park and a discussion of the work of Robert Altman. The evening will also include a talkback hosted by Bob Balaban with Guilia D'Agnolo Vallan and Kathryn Altman, the widow of Robert Altman. Tickets are $20.

GRENNING GALLERY - “American Paintings” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 14. PARRISH ART MUSEUM - “Guided Tour of the Permanent Collection” takes place on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The docent-led tour features highlights from the seven permanent collection galleries. SARA NIGHTINGALE GALLERY - “Reinventing the Helm” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through August 3. The group exhibition examines the genres of traditional maritime and marine art using ship portraiture, seascapes, novels, folklore and ancient myths about the sea as inspiration.
