When Art Miami New York opens its doors on May 14, 2015, it will break the fair production company's record for most valuable painting offered at the Art Miami art fairs. Claude Monet's Le Bassin aux Nymphéas, 1918, will be offered for $25 million by Arcature Fine Art of Palm Beach during Art Miami New York's inaugural edition.

The offering makes it the most valuable painting in the history of Art Miami, according to the art fair. The record was previously held by a painting by Gerhard Richter that sold for $12 million in 2013, according to Nick Korniloff, show director for Art Miami. Art Miami routinely has art sales in the $1 to $5 million range, he said.

Le Bassin aux Nymphéas (Water Lilies) is a classic example of the artist’s preoccupation and fascination with the beautiful reflective luminosity of the water’s surface accented by floating circular lily pads and surrounding fauna, according to information provided on the work.

Water Lilies are the most celebrated and recognized subject of the Monet's oeuvre, which depicts various views of the French Impressionist’s flower garden at Giverny and was the main focus of the artist’s painterly production during the last thirty years of his life.
