New York City is popping with Hampton-based artists. Look for new solo shows by Clifford Ross, Audrey Flack and Jackie Black. A solo show of work by Syd Solomon (1917-2004) also continues this month. May brings Frieze New York and Frieze Week with multiple satellite art fairs alighting in New York City. Expect to find Hamptons galleries Eric Firestone Gallery (NADA), Birnam Wood, Mark Borghi Fine Art and Keszler Gallery (Art Miami New York) among the exhibitors. MAY 1 (FRIDAY)

"MEMORY, MOOD AND MOMENTS” opens on May 1 at Studio 26 Gallery in the East Village. An Opening Reception takes place on May 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through May 10. The exhibition is curated by Marilyn Stevenson and presented by Marilyn Stevenson Projects. Exhibiting artists are Danielle Epstein, Susan Zises and Joyce Korotkin. "FILM SCREENING AND CLOSING RECEPTION: CITY LIMIT” takes place on May 3 from noon to 6 p.m. at The Journal Gallery in Brooklyn. Artists starring in the film include Rosa Barba, Cyprien Gaillard, Phill Niblock and Dennis Oppenheim. Dennis Oppenheim  (1938 – 2011) was based in The Hamptons.

MAY 4 (MONDAY)

"CURTAIN UP! FOURTH ANNUAL HONORS BENEFIT” takes place on May 4 at 6 p.m. at Joe’s Pub on the Lower East Side. The event benefits Bay Street Theater and includes a preview of the Summer Mainstage Season. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. and the curtain will go up at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $150 to $3000. Bay Street Theater is located in Sag Harbor.

"JACKIE BLACK’S THE GUN SHOW” opens on May 6 at Senaspace in TriBeCa. An Opening Reception takes place in May 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 20. The show features fourteen photographs of collectible pistols. Jackie Black is based on Shelter Island.

"AUDREY FLACK: THE ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST YEARS” opens on May 7 at Hollis Taggart Galleries on the Upper East Side. An Opening Reception takes place on May 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 6. Audrey Flack is based in the Hamptons.

“ARTIST RECEPTION FOR JOHN HAUBRICH" takes place on May 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Effeti Showroom in Chelsea. The reception is part of Wanted Design, International Design Fair, taking place from May 15 to 18. John Haubrich is based in East Hampton and NYC.

"NIGHT CAGE: BRIAN KOKOSKA & CHLOE SIEBERT" opens May 16 at Johannes Vogt Gallery in Chelsea. An Opening Reception takes place on May 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 19. For this installation, Kokoska has altered the gallery space entirely in baby pink using subtle variations in wall and carpet shades to set a disruptive and soothing environment for both his and Seibert's works. Kokoska will present hypnotic paintings of faces and monochromatic acquired object sculptures. Siebert will present two wall sculptures and a large head statue incorporating scale and expression to evoke psychological responses. Brian Kokoska is based in Water Mill and NYC.

“KY ANDERSON: HOVER” opens on May 28 at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in Chelsea. An Opening Reception will be held on June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 27. Anderson will present abstract paintings on canvas and new works on paper that channel the primitive origins of drawing.

"SYDNEY LICHT: PACKAGED GOODS” opens on May 28 at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in Chelsea. An Opening Reception will be held on June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 27. Licht will present new still-life paintings exploring the materiality of paint and color relationships.

The show features a curated selection of fifteen paintings highlighting this important period in the artist’s career. Syd Solomon (1917-2004) divided his time between East Hampton, NY and Sarasota, FL.
