Metro Curates will receive a big sign of approval by Jack Lenor Larsen of LongHouse Reserve shortly after the art fair opens. Metro Curates opens tonight with a set of previews. After taking a studied look, Larsen will bestow the LongHouse Award for Design Excellence for the best booth concept and layout. The ceremony (and results) unfold on January 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. Afterwards, Larsen will lead a tour of the art and design fair.

Metro Curates will be held from January 22 - 25, 2015 at Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. The fair presents 35 exhibitors who each present a single artist or design concept. Larson is a well-known textile designer, author and founder of LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, N.Y. If you're looking for another Hamptons connection at Metro Curates, Kathryn Markel Fine Arts of Bridgehampton and Chelsea is exhibiting work by Marcelyn McNeil at the art fair.

Metro Curates is unusual as far as art fairs goes: it crosses all boundaries that may exist between design and art presented as an intimate experience. A high level of connoisseurship plus a diverse selection of materials create a fair that's bound to surprise. Expect to find Abstract art, Outsider art, Pop art, Folk Art and Decorative Art in this year's edition.

The unusual mix goes to the fair's point of inclusion: "...great ideas, great art and great design are best when presented creatively side by side in an integrated fashion," according to Metro Curates. In keeping with the curated concept of the fair, each gallery is requested to present a single-artist or themed exhibit of artwork.

Following is a preview of some of the art and objects to be found at Metro Curates:
