The Parrish Art Museum and the Suffolk County Historical Museum may be drawing a lot of attention this weekend. The Parrish has a full slate of weekend events designed to welcome two major exhibitions to the museum. The Suffolk County Historical Museum (along with much of Riverhead) is celebrating Edgar Alan Poe with a new exhibition and a sprawling festival in Riverhead. Elsewhere on the East End are exhibition receptions, screenings, talks and other events. Following is this week's listing of art receptions and select cultural happenings to help plan your arts travels.

AMAGANSETT 

ILLE ARTS GALLERY - “Life in the Abstract” by Dru Frederick, Barbara Groot and John Haubrich has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Nov. 10. Ille Arts Gallery is located at 216a Main Street, Amagansett, NY 11930. www.illearts.com.

BRIDGEHAMPTON

PIERREʼS RESTAURANT - "New Paintings: Ted Asnis" has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 3 to 6 pm. Pierreʼs Restaurant is located at 2468 Main Street, Bridgehampton, NY 11932. www.pierresbridgehampton.com.

EAST HAMPTON/SPRINGS 

GUILD HALL - "The Met: Live in HD - Bizet's CARMEN" takes place on Saturday at 1 p.m. Richard Eyre's production of Bizet's work stars Anita Rachvelishvili, Aleksandrs Antonenko, IIdar Abdrazakov, and others. Admission is $22, $20 for members, $15 for students. 

"Gallery Talk with Mary Ellen Bartley" takes place on Saturday at 2 p.m. The photographic exhibition, "Mary Ellen Bartley: Leaning Above the Page" remains on view through Jan. 4, 2015. The talk is free with museum admission.

MONTAUK

THE MONTAUK LIBRARY - “Protest and Celebration: Community Murals in NYC” talk by Jane Weissman takes place on Sunday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The talk is free.  The Montauk Library is located at 871 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954. www.montauklibrary.org.

RIVERHEAD

“Edgar Allan Poe Festival” takes place from Friday through Sunday on Riverhead’s Main Street and Beyond. Events take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday with a parade at 7 p.m. and from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Features include spook shows, music, food, haunted houses, and more. 

SUFFOLK COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - “Edgar Allan Poe Festival Events” take place on Saturday from noon to 5:30 p.m. to coincide with the Riverhead Poe Festival. Events include ghost stories, readings, and more. Admission is free.

"Book & Bottle with Dean Failey" takes place on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Dean Failey will discuss and sign his book, "Long Island Is My Nation: The Decorative Arts and Craftsmen, 1640 - 1830." Admission is $5, free for members. RSVP requested.

SOUTHAMPTON

PETER MARCELLE PROJECT - “Solo Show by Roisin Bateman” has an Opening Reception with the artist on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Nov. 16. TRIPOLI GALLERY - “Poetics of Space” by Michael Chiarello and Jonathan Beer has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Nov. 24. Chiarello will show steel sculpture that explores the possibilities of positive and negative space. Beer will show paintings that experiment with illusionistic devices to challenge our notions of space. Tripoli Gallery is located at 30 Jobs Lane, Southampton, NY 11968. www.tripoligallery.com.

WATER MILL

PARRISH ART MUSEUM

“Salon Series: Pianist Sandro Russo” takes place on Friday at 6 p.m. The pianist’s program includes works by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Lowell Liebermann. Tickets are $20, $10 for Parrish Members.

"Guided Tours of Special Exhibitions" take place on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. Special exhibitions include "Steven and William Ladd: Mary Queen of the Universe" and "Alan Shields: In Motion."

"Members' Reception for 'Steven and William Ladd: Mary Queen of the Universe' and 'Alan Shields: In Motion'" takes place on Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Both exhibitions remain on view through Jan. 19.

"The Curator's View: Jill Brienza on 'Alan Shields: In Motion'" takes place on Sunday at 11 a.m. Reservations are encouraged.

WATERMILL CENTER

"Open Rehearsal: Born for Nothing by Lydian Junction takes place on Saturday at 5 p.m. Lydian Junction, the current artist-in-residence at Watermill Center, creates live art combining performance, video art, installation, music and dance. "Born for Nothing" is a work in progress that responds to the Watermill collection. Free but reservations required.
