Art Round Up – Week of 10.09.14

Columbus Day Weekend is here and brings with it a flurry of art receptions, cultural events and the Hamptons International Film Festival. Get your pencils out and start planning! SILAS MARDER GALLERY - “Louise Eastman: Loop Holes” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. A live jazz trio led by Peter Watrous will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastman will present an exhibition of mixed media weavings, paintings, and an interactive installation. EAST HAMPTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY - “June 13, 1942: Saboteurs Land in Amagansett” has a Curator Tour on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Clinton Academy Museum. GLENN HOROWITZ BOOKSELLER - “Colin Goldberg: Techspressionism” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Nov. 11. LAWRENCE FINE ART - “Judy Mauer: NYC Dolls” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. The gallery will be open all day to coincide with the Hamptons International Film Festival. QUOGUE

QUOGUE GALLERY - “Raymond Hendler: A Deeper Poetry” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition features abstract expressionist paintings made in the 1950s, ’60s and ’80s. PARRISH ART MUSEUM at GEEKHAMPTON - “Meet the Artist: Evan Desmond Yee” takes place on Saturday at 10 a.m. The artist’s Parrish Road Show installation, “The App Store,” remains on view through Oct. 13 at GeekHampton. SHELTER ISLAND

SYLVESTER MANOR EDUCATIONAL FARM - "Plant & Sing" takes place on Saturday. The festival celebrates local food and community as well as bluegrass and traditional American music. The Deadly Gentlemen, The Wainwright Sisters and other musicians and writers will perform. SOUTHAMPTON CULTURAL CENTER 

“Varieties of Visual Expression” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Nov. 18. Exhibiting artists are  Abby Abrams, Mary Antczak, Stephanie Brody-Lederman, Colin Goldberg, Matt Harnick, Tracy Jamar, Bill Kiriazis, Alexander Russo, Strong-Cuevas, Grace Sutton and Faith-Dorian Wright.  The exhibition presents a range of art approaches and mediums reflecting the artist's experience, observation, perception and imagination. 

“Rising Stars Piano Series Presents Robin Giesbrecht” takes place on Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission is $15, free for students under 21.

WATER MILL

CLAY ART GUILD at the WATER MILL MUSEUM - “Bowls of Plenty - A Luncheon Benefit for the Water Mill Museum” takes place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 100 handmade pottery soup bowls by the potters of the Clay Art Guild will be on sale. soups, bread, drinks, and dessert will be served.
