The Hamptons art scene explodes with plenty of art options to consider. Expect to find eye-popping art, a mini-survey of figuration, classic landscape and figuration, plus a Cuban Opera performance.

This weekend’s picks of not to miss exhibitions are “Close Up: Contemporary Portraiture” at Southampton Center in Southampton; “Storage Wars” at Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton and “Ben Fenske Solo Show” at Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor. This week, there's a Three To See Extra - a performance by Opera Soprano Amaya Arberas with accompaniment by David Galvez, courtesy of the Cuban Cultural Center of New York, at Dodds & Eder Home Gallery in Sag Harbor.

"Close Up: Contemporary Portraiture" has an opening reception tonight; "Ben Fenske" presents a closing breakfast with the artist on Saturday morning, Amaya Arberas performs on Saturday evening; and "Storage Wars" is open for viewing all weekend long.

"Storage Wars" at Eric Firestone Gallery"

“Storage Wars” opened a few weeks ago and continues through September 7. Hands down, this is a stunning show. Wooden storage crates frame artwork positioned from floor to ceiling. As an interesting twist, the right side of the gallery is curated by Eric Firestone Gallery with the right side curated by The Hole of New York City.

Artists presented by Eric Firestone Gallery include Sanford Biggers, Eric Freeman, Max Snow, Eric White and others. the Hole presents works by Kadar Brock, JIM JOE, Evan Robarts, Holton Rower, and others. While the show implies the art was pulled straight from storage onto the gallery floor, the show didn't turn out this way. Some artists were painting until the final moments before shipping.

Don't miss it.

Eric Firestone Gallery is located at 4 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937.  www.ericfirestonegallery.com.

  1. Thank you so much, hamptonsarthub.com, for the fantastic article about my painting “S S Rendezvous and Race”. The writing in the piece itself is award-winning material and has put my painting, the Gallery, and the Southold Historical Society on the North Fork in a brilliant spotlight!
