NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – Storm King Art Center hosted its third annual Summer Solstice Celebration on June 14, 2014. Set on the grounds among monumental sculptures, attendees included artists, art world enthusiasts, local luminaries, philanthropists, celebrities and Storm King supporters.
Guests enjoyed private tours of the exhibitions and walked the grounds on a beautiful spring evening. Drinks and appetizers were served while they viewed the season’s highlights. For the 2104 season, Storm King presented major work by Zhang Huan (Zhang Huan: Evoking Tradition) and a site-specific project by Virginia Overton titled Outlooks: Virginia Overton.
Following a cocktail reception, a walk to the di Suvero Fields was met with a savor a gourmet, farm-sourced dinner. The food served was sourced from regional and local farms and served family style under the stars amid the sculptures. The dinner menu had been inspired by Storm King’s exhibition Zhang Huan: Evoking Tradition. Peter Hoffman of the restaurants Black Forty and Black Forty West in New York City, and Shelly Boris of Fresh Company in Garrison, New York designed the gourmet dinner.
Storm King Art Center's Summer Solstice Celebration event committee featured Joan K. Davidson, Debby Landesman, Vickie Morris, Lisa & Julian Niccolini, Jeannette Redden, Nanahya C. Santana, Chuck & Shelby Werner.
Proceeds from the event benefit Storm King’s future exhibitions and programming.
Storm King is located in New York’s Hudson Valley and is one of the world’s leading sculpture parks. It encompasses 500 acres of rolling hills, verdant fields, and woodlands. The grounds provide space for a collection of over 100 large-scale sculptures by some of the most acclaimed artists of our time. They include Alexander Calder, Mark di Suvero, Andy Goldsworthy, Maya Lin, Claus Oldenburg, Louise Nevelson, Isamu Noguchi, Richard Serra, David Smith, and Zhang Huan, among others.
