Frieze Art Week brings an extra presence of Hamptons art and artists to New York City in May. In addition to the art fairs, look for a Bay Street Theater benefit and Hamptons artists exhibiting in art galleries around town. For details, check out the list that follows.

OPENING

MAY 1 (THURSDAY)

“MASTERS OF EXPRESSIONISM IN POSTWAR AMERICA” has an Opening Reception on May 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Berry Campbell in Chelsea. The show continues through May 31. The exhibition presents works by 16 artists that are Abstract Expressionism or Color Field paintings.

They include James Brooks, Norman Bluhm, Giorgio Cavallon, Jimmy Ernst, John Ferren, Sam Francis, Judith Godwin, Gertrude Green, Grace Hartigan, Raymond Hendler, Hans Hofmann, Paul Jenkins, Norman Kanter, John Little, Stephen Pace and Theodoros Stamos. Artists who worked in the Hamptons included Brooks, Ernst, Ferren, Green, Hartigan and Little.

"ELEMENTS" - A solo exhibition by David Datuna has an Opening Reception on May 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Birnam Woods / Galleries in Chelsea. The exhibition is Datuna's first show of new work since his installation Viewpoint of Billions in February 2014 at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. The installation was the first artwork to integrate Google Glass, a wearable computer program that created an interactive experience for viewers.

MAY 7 (WEDNESDAY)

"GRACELAND" - A solo show by Will Boone has an Opening Reception on May 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Karma books in NoHo. New paintings and sculpture will be presented inspired by Elvis Presley's self-decorated Jungle Room at his mansion Graceland in Memphis, TN.

MAY 8 - 11 (THURSDAY - MONDAY)

FRIEZE ART FAIR WEEK. Hamptons artists and galleries can be found throughout the 15 or so art fairs that are presenting work in New York City as part of the newly-minted "Frieze Art Week." They include Eric Firestone Gallery at Pulse New York, Halsey Mckay Gallery at NADA, Watermill Center at cutlog New York, artist Mark Perry at Select Fair (exhibited with Zoya Tommy Contemporary) and Josephine Meckseper at Frieze Art Fair (exhibited with Andrea Rosen Gallery).

MAY 12 (MONDAY)

"CURTAIN UP!" preview of Bay Street Theater's Summer 2014 Mainstage Season will be held at Joe's Pub on May 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event features performances from the summer theater productions including "CONVICTION", "MY LIFE IS A MUSICAL" and "TRAVESTIES". The event honors Bonnie Comley and Stewart Lane and Pia and Jimmy Zankel. Tickets are $150 for bar seating, $250 for general admission and $500 for VIP seating. For tickets, call 631-725-0818.

MAY 22 (THURSDAY)

“NOVA SUPERNOVA” – A solo exhibition by Meredith Pardue has an Opening Reception on May 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts. This is the artist’s first solo show at the gallery. Her work is inspired by the natural world with her latest series inspired by outer space. Her process is an investigation of space and color and that of physical and psychological space.

MAY 3 (SATURDAY)

“ALLAN WEXLER: BREAKING GROUND” closes May 3 at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts in SoHo. The solo show presents a series of hand-worked photo-based digital prints and sculpture which continues the artist’s exploration of the forms, functions and meanings of what is built by mankind and our relationship to natural world and the marks placed on the landscape. Allan Wexler is based on the North Fork.Ronald Feldman Fine Arts is located at 31 Mercer Street, New York, NY 10013.

MAY 17 (SATURDAY)

“DAPHNE’S NIGHT OUT” by Marilla Palmer and QUIET MIND, RESTLESS SOUL” by Stephanie London closes on May 17 at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in Chelsea.

“DONALD SULTAN: ARTIFICE” continues through June 24 at Ryan Lee in Chelsea at its new expanded location. The exhibition presents eight paintings that introduce new imagery to Sultan’s artistic practice plus variations on his signature poppy and lantern flower patterns. Sultan is based in the Hamptons.
