EAST END, NY

Much attention is turned to Frieze art fair and the newly-minted Frieze Art Week in New York City with Hamptons galleries and artists being part of the fray. In the Hamptons, live music, book readings and the first benefit art sale and exhibition by Plein Air Peconic takes place. (Sales benefit the Peconic Land Trust).

Following is this week's list of where to find art and culture in the Hamptons and on the North Fork:

AMAGANSETT 

CRAZY MONKEY GALLERY - “Freestyle” by Beth Barry and Lieve Thiers has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through June 2. The artists will exhibit abstract paintings. Also on view will be a group exhibit featuring gallery member artists. BRIDGEHAMPTON

BRIDGEHAMPTON MUSEUM - “Parlor Jazz/Art of Song Concert” takes place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The concert features tenor saxophonist Houston Person, pianist Jane Hastay, and bassist Peter Martin Weiss. Admission is $25. The concert takes place in the Bridgehampton Museum Archives Building, 2539-A Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, NY 11932. www.bhmuseum.org

EAST HAMPTON/SPRINGS 

ASHAWAGH HALL - “Open Spaces IV” presented by Plein Air Peconic has an Artist Reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mother’s Day Coffee Reception will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The exhibition is open from May 9 to 11 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The exhibition features photographs and paintings inspired by the Hamptons landscape. A portion of the sales will benefit the Peconic Land Trust. Ashawagh Hall is located at at 780 Springs Fireplace Rd, Springs, NY 11937. www.ashawagh-hall.org.

JOHN DREW THEATER OF GUILD HALL

“THE MET: LIVE IN HD – ROSSINI’S “LA CENERENTOLA” screens on Saturday at 1 p.m. as the final performance in the 2013-14 series season.

Features mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the Cinderella title role, and tenor Juan Diego Flórez as her Prince Charming. Alessandro Corbelli and Luca Pisaroni complete the cast. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leads the score. Running Time: 3 hours 40 minutes. General admission is $20 for members, $22 for non-members and $15 for students. For tickets, click here.

‘POETRY PAIRS with TOI DERRICOTTE and GRACE SCHULMAN” will be held on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Produced by Fran Castan, who introduces the pair. A book signing with a wine and dessert reception will follow. Free.

MATTITUCK 

EAST END ARTS at STRONG’S MARINA - “A Musical Afternoon” takes place on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. The event will feature a cello ensemble and a cabaret singer. SAG HARBOR

CANIO’S BOOKS – Book Reading: James McMullan ‘Leaving China: An Artist Paints His World War II Childhood' takes place on Saturday at 5 p.m. McMullan’s memoir is a mix of storytelling and color paintings that reveal a childhood of international travel supporting the Allied Forces during World War II after leaving his homeland of North China.

James McMullan is an award-winning illustrator, whose work has appeared in a variety of  books for adults and young readers. He has created over fifty posters for the Lincoln Center Theatre and received the New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award in 2002.

RICHARD J. DEMATO FINE ART - “Paws and Reflect” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The benefit exhibition remains on view through June 29. Art sales benefit the Southampton Animal Shelter. The gallery is located at 90 Main Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963. www.rjdgallery.com .

SOUTHAMPTON

SOUTHAMPTON CULTURAL CENTER - “The Counterclockwise Ensemble” will perform on Saturday at 7 p.m. The ensemble includes Rich Stein (guitar), Andrew and Rebecca Perea (orchestral strings), Glen Saunders (double bass), and Jim Mansfield (percussion).

The ensemble will play their “Cool Classical” program including works by Holst, Copland, Brahms, and others. Tickets are $20, $10 for students under 21. WATERMILL

PARRISH ART MUSEUM - EXHIBITION TOURS will be held on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Free with museum admission. Led by a museum docent. Space is limited. The museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, NY 11976.  www.parrishart.org.
