May brings even more season openings to the Hamptons and the North Fork. This month brings the season opening of The Pollock-Krasner House & Study Center and the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum.

Guild Hall Museum begins presenting exhibitions for the season . So does East End Photographers Group. The North Fork begins to wake and even more Hamptons galleries hold initial shows for the 2014 season.

Following some of the openings and exhibitions in May that usher in the 2014 art season:

POLLOCK-KRASNER HOUSE, GUILD HALL & SAG HARBOR WHALING MUSEUM

THE POLLOCK-KRASNER HOUSE & STUDY CENTER opens for the season on May 1 and also unveils its first exhibition “Color and Time: Paintings by Roy Newell, 1956-2000”. The exhibition presents 28 of Newell’s abstract oil paintings, demonstrating his stylistic multilayered surfaces and luminous tonality through these works that span several decades.

A reception and panel discussion with guest curator Dr. Robert E. Harrist, artist Richard Dupont and art historian Kent Minturn will be held on May 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs through July 26.

For those interested in discovering the home of artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner and seeing Pollock's art studio and famous paint drips, The Pollock-Krasner House offers one-hour guided tours by appointment only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 11 am. and 4 p.m.  The tour costs $10 for adults and $5 for children.

THE SAG HARBOR WHALING & HISTORICAL MUSEUM opens for the season on May 15 and holds its first art exhibition shortly afterwards. “A Whale of a Show” opens on May 23 and continues through June 18 to kick off the museum’s “Salt Air Exhibition II” summer art series. The exhibition will have an Opening Reception on May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The show features local artists and is curated by artist Dan Rizzie and art dealer Peter Marcelle. Exhibiting artists include Gahan Wilson, Reynolds Ruffins, Paul Davis, Jim McMullen, Donald Sultan, John Torreano, April Gornik, Jill Musnicki, Susan Lazarus, David Slater and others.

The historical museum reopens for the 2014 season on May 15. The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum is located at 200 Main Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963. For the full slate of programming and exhibits on view, visit www.sagharborwhalingmuseum.org.

After a series of student art exhibition, Guild Hall Museum opens for 2014 with the “76th Annual Guild Hall Artist Members Exhibition”. The beloved annual exhibition opened on May 3 and continues through June 7.  "Meet the Winners" event will be held on May 17 at 11 a.m.  For details, click here.

Also in May is the opening of a solo sculpture show by Arlene Slavin in the outdoor gardens. "Arlene Slavin: Intersections" opens on May 26 and continues through Oct. 13. An Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, June 28.

The exhibition presents a new series of sculptures and paintings referencing Slavin's exhibited works in the mid-1970s. The new abstract works are diagonal grid-based works featuring layers of translucent stained colors.

HAMPTONS GALLERIES Launching in MAY 

Galleries and artist organizations opening their 2014 seasons have shows in East Hampton, Southampton and Sag Harbor.

LAWRENCE FINE ART  presents “Linescapes” as the first exhibition of their season. The show features the abstract art of Carol Sears, an Australian-born and Los Angeles-based painter. The exhibition opens on May 22 with an Opening Reception on May 24. Sears’ style oscillates between compositional deliberation and apparent happenstance accretion of strokes.

RICHARD J. DEMATO FINE ARTS GALLERY opens its summer season with "Transcendental Feminine Fantasy” presenting works by Andrea Kowch, Pam Hawkes, Haley Hasler, Anne-Marie Kornachuk, Katie O’Hagan, Margo Selski and Adrienne Stein. The show opens on May 31.

KESZLER GALLERY in Southampton opens in May by presenting the latest works by photographer Marco Glaviano featuring famous supermodels printed on canvas and hand coated with diamond dust crystals plus a limited edition color paper portfolio of 12 prints of Cindy Crawford.

Later this summer, new street works by Bansky made during his recent New York City residency and from other spots around the world will be exhibited. So will sculpture by Arturo Di Modica, who is best known for his “Charging Bull of Wall Street”—a sculpture installed by the artist without permission but stuck due to popular demand for the artwork.

EAST END PHOTOGRAPHERS GROUP Launches the 2014 Season

“Spring Exhibition 2014” will lead off the first of four group shows held by East End Photographers group, a Hamptons-based photographers collective and non-profit.

"Spring Exhibition 2014" open on May 31 at Ashawagh Hall and continues through June 8. An Opening Reception will be held on May 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.  Ashawagh Hall is located  Old Stone Highway, East Hampton, NY 11937.

Their season continues with “Summer Exhibition 2014” held at the Remsenburg Academy from June 27 through July 11. An Opening Reception is planned for June 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. The final group show for the season, "Summer Celebration” will be held at the Water Mill Museum from July 17 through Aug. 11. An Opening Reception takes place on July 17 from 5 to 7 p.m.

THE NORTH FORK Begins the Summer Art Season

The North Fork also begins to offer curated art shows in May. Here are two to watch:

ALEX FERRONE PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY“Metropolis Exhibit” launches the fine art photography gallery's first official show of the summer season. The three-person exhibit features works by Rich Faron, Scott Farrell and Ray Germann. Through June 8.

SOUTH STREET GALLERY presents “North Fork Modernism” as its season opener. The solo show by Colin Goldberg opens on May 2 and continues through May 26. An Artist Reception will be held on May 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. The works merge traditional drawing and painting techniques with large-format digital printing and computer graphics.
