Armory Art Fair weeks alights in New York City during the first week in March casting a spotlight on multiple art fairs and the NYC art scene in general. The Whitney Biennial also opens creating a frenzy of art events and openings to attend. Expect to see Hamptons artists Tony Ross at The Armory Modern, Ross Watts at Volta and others.

In addition, East End artists can be found across NYC in gallery shows. Following is a cheat sheet of where to find them. Exhibitions opening this month are listed first. Those closing within the month are listed next.  The final section presents exhibitions that continue beyond the current month (if any).

MARCH 8 (SATURDAY)

Group Show Opens on March 8 with the exhibiting artists on hand from 3 to 5 p.m. at OK Harris in SoHo. The exhibition continues through April 19. Exhibiting works are Jean-Pierre Seguin, Steven Corsano, Tino Zago, Robert Ginder, Randy Dudley and Shoichi Akutsu. Steven Corsano is based in East Hampton, NY and NYC.

MARCH 10 (MONDAY)

GUILD HALL'S LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS is being held on March 10 at Sotheby's, 1334 York Avenue, NY, NY. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $100 for young patrons. Receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards are Barbara Walters for Literary-Media Arts, Blythe Danner for Performing Arts and Philippe de Montebello for Visual Arts. Special Awards for Leadership and Philanthropic Endeavors will be presented to Jo Carole and Ronald S. Lauder. The Master of Ceremonies is Alec Baldwin. For information, visit www.guildhall.org.

MARCH 13 (THURSDAY)

“SOMETIMES THERE ARE NO RULES” – A solo exhibition by Yolanda Sánchez has an Opening Reception on March 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. The show continues through April 12. This is the artist’s fourth solo show at the gallery. Her work mixes references to the natural world with contrasting compositional structures to create imagery that this experimental and separate from narrative.

“VALTA US” has an Opening Reception on Thursday, March 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mark Borghi Fine Art Gallery on the Upper East Side. The exhibition is on view from March 11 to 15 only. RSVP is requested. Valta Us is based in Sag Harbor, NY. The show is co-presented by Keyes Art and Carnegie Hall.

MARCH 20 (THURSDAY)

"A CONVERSATION BETWEEN BRICE MARDEN AND SCOTT ROTHKOPF" to celebrate the release of two new publications takes place on March 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Karma in NoHo. The conversation begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. Co-presented with Matthew Marks Gallery. The new publications are Book of Images, 1970 (published by Karma) and Graphite Drawings (published by Matthew Marks Gallery).

MARCH 29 (SATURDAY)

“ALLAN WEXLER: BREAKING GROUND” has an Opening Reception on March 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. in SoHo. The show continues through May 3. The solo show presents a series of hand-worked photo-based digital prints and sculpture which continues the artist’s exploration of the forms, functions and meanings of what is built by mankind and our relationship to natural world and the marks placed on the landscape. Wexler is based on the North Fork.

MARCH 22 (SATURDAY)

"A SENSE OF PLACE: IMAGES OF NEW YORK" closes on March 22 in Chelsea at Birnam Wood Galleries. Exhibiting artists are Ramon Espantaleon, Susan Grossman, John Hardy, Beth O'Donnell, Clifford Smith, Fred Stein and Andrew Kertesz. Beth O'Donnell is based in East Hampton, NY and Brooklyn.

MARCH 29 (SATURDAY)

“CHUCK CLOSE NUDES 1967-2014” closes on March 29 at Pace Gallery in Chelsea. The show presents Close’s Polaroid and daguerreotype nudes and Big Nude (1967), a 10’ x 21’ painting never publicly exhibited before in New York. Close had a solo show in 2013 at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY and had a long-time studio in the Hamptons.
